Im curious is the Rodgers Era better than the Starr Packers or the Favre Packers? As I see it the holmgren Packers were alot better than the Mike McCarthy Rodgers years. And the 60 Packers is by far the best Era

Favre was pretty good, but I think Holmgren had it together better than Mike does. I also see a little bit of that diva attitude creeping in with Aaron. We'll see how it plays out.

I don't think Ted's gonna be handing him the keys to the franchise anytime soon. LOL

I started out by saying (I guess one of the other Dear Ted threads) that Ted had done a good job BUT .......

Hell yeah, the Packers are good - somebody mentioned "top 4-5 teams", we are THAT good right now - sorry defense, shaky O-Line, and all. WHY? Almost entirely because of Aaron Rodgers. The rest of the team - as I was probably the first to say, got exposed last season.

Nobody here wants Ted Thompson to plunge head first into the free agent market; Probably nobody here wants him fired; Probably most people here are on board for the most part with "draft and develop"; But Thompson's mania for not going after quality FAs to fill holes the team has is an absolute classic case of too much of a good thing.

Do you want people to NOT complain about the farting away of this "2nd Greatest Packer Era"?

One more thing. To have grown up in Wisconsin while Vince Lombardi built the Green Bay Packers. I am one lucky son of a gun. I got to view that dynasty as a lad, the best perspective. I knew every swinging Richard long before the hall of fame did. I personally loved Wllie Davis. This shit isn't shit unless we get some passion for winning like Vince had. Not feeling it, at all. You asked.

I watched SB 31 in it's entirety the other day, you know Holmgren/ Favre, that team ranks a close second.
McCarthy/ Rodgers has not even come close to those two era's but it sure ain't because of Rodgers.

If I remember my history (since even I and gunny are not THIS old hahaha), I think the Packers won 3 straight championships in the early 1930s, but I'm not sure. So we might be talking about 3rd v 4th.

As for the question, neither now nor the late '90s team dominated quite like Lombardi's Packers, but then it's a lot bigger league now, among other differences. I could easily understand if the original guy saying "2nd best ....." lumped Holmgren/Favre's Packers and Sherman/McCarthy/Rodgers's Packers all together, as we basically have been on one LONG run of success going back to the early '90s.

I would disagree with Nerdman that Starr was the best QB of the three. He was on the best team, yes, but I'd have to take Favre for total body of work and Rodgers for overall ability over him.

As for a choice between the later half of this past two decades team and the earlier half, I think I'd take a pass on that - it's damn near equal, and back to the earlier stuff in the thread, damn frustrating on both counts that our GM(s) have not been able (or willing) to fill out the rest of the team very well to go with our superstar QB(s).

I'll answer that, I'm qualified.

I do not know how you could improve upon the Starr Packers era. It was a traditional "right" when so much seemed to be going wrong in this country. It was tradition. It was the end result of the things you were taught in school and church. The Green Bay Packers defined tradition and toughness. It WAS something people said... "He's as tough as a Green Bay Packer." That MEANT something, back then.

Favre got a HUGE pass during a lot of his career due to the 28 year drought suffered by the fan base. If you are younger than the drought, you no habla, if you are not, you completely understand, Favre ain't SHIT to that older cadre, now that we got RODGERS!

RODGERS has been us old guys dream. He's humble, (Comparatively) smart , accurate, yada yada yada-- He's Bart Starr with a gun for an arm Us old guys could pay him no more higher compliment, period.

I LIKE HIM He reminds me of Bart Starr.

In 11 seasons from 1929 thru 1939 they won 5 championships and finished 2nd twice. add in 1927 with a 2nd place finish and 1944 on the other end with a championship to open and close the era.

I've had enough. The vast majority of posters on here the last 72 hours have whined non stop about the actions of a team that has won the Super Bowl in the last few years, has been a consistent playoff team and has a MVP in his prime. You're frustrated that the Packers aren't doing what you think is necessary to get from being really good to World Champions. Like any of us know squat.

But the part that really annoys me is that some of you appear willing to sell out the future of the team for slightly improving the odds that the Packers win the Super Bowl. YOU WHINE LIKE 7 YR OLD GIRLS WHEN WE LOSE CLOSE PLAYOFF GAMES. THE THOUGHT THAT YOU WOULD BE OK WITH A 3-13 SEASON IS LAUGHABLE.

Either you all have only been fans for a few years or you have forgotten what the other side feels like. Rejoice because this is the 2nd greatest era of Packer football and it won't last. Then you'll really have something to complain about!
