It's not about mistakes but about making plays.

Against the 9ers our only great defensive play came from Tramon, and it's usually Tramon or Clay.

In 2010 we had Woodson, Collins, Tramon and Clay as playmakers... and now?

I'd add Shields to the current list along with Clay and possibly Tramon or Daniels. Beyond that, it's hard to describe anyone on defense as better than serviceable.

Everyone bitches that we don't have any veteran leaders on this team and then when a player comes out and says playing with younger players is generally a liability everyone calls bullshit. Make up your minds.

Besides, when does a player become a veteran. 2 years, 3 years, more. Does it matter if he is a full time starter or a spot duty player?

The more you play the more experience you get and if you have great skills to go along with that experience you could be one of the great ones. If you have skills but not the brains to take advantage of the experience you may not go far. If you have all the experience in the world but your skills are limited you may not go far. You may stick around for a long time and be a decent role player but you probably won't excel.

Great skills can make up for lack of experience in the short term and vice versa but long term, the really good ones need both. Young guys, even those with great skills, don't have the experience and in most cases it will show up eventually in the form of a mistake. I think that is what Williams is saying. Obviously that does not mean the experienced ones don't make mistakes. Everyone does.

I also love it when people pick one guy and use him as an example as to why a premise is wrong. "My uncle smoked 3 packs a day and lived to be 100 years old. You can't tell me smoking is bad for you." Its the same way with football players. One young rookie has a decent year and all of a sudden the idea that younger players may not be as good, or maybe we should say consistent, as older players is hogwash.

Very little difference between the age and experience of the defense today, and the age and experience of the defense in 2010. If there is a leadership problem on the team it is the players that should be the leaders. Williams should be one of those leaders.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!
