As a resident of the bay area, this game means a whole lot more to me than any other game this season.

I'm surrounded by Niners and Raiders fans. Obviously, the Raiders fans don't say much to me. They'll talk, but I don't pay much attention to them. The Niners fans, especially ones sprouting out of nowhere, are just SO TREMENDOUSLY ANNOYING.

Even in the eras in which we've owned the Niners, I was never that annoying, flaunting success.

Also being here, I know this team quite well.

Last year, while I held out hope, I wasn't surprised we lost the game. Kaepernick was a beast, and the NFL wasn't ready for the read option.

At the beginning of the year, I also had hope, but I was a little more confident. But Kaepernick played the best passing game of his career.

But as someone else said, he's fallen back to earth.

If the Packers can stuff Gore and make him a non-factor, then we'll just have to combine man and zone on the receivers. The X-Factor here is Vernon Davis, but Kapernick doesn't look his way very often.

Rodgers just needs to play lights out. We need Rodgers 2010 to come out and play, and we have the firepower to do it. We have a running game too. They'll be more useful than they were in Week 1. I know it.

The only problem I see is that our d was playing better at the beginning of the year. Its gonna be another tough one.

No question the Packers D will have to step up but I will give them credit for doing so in the first half of the Bears game. I know you have to play 4 quarters and there were some mistakes in the 2nd half but if the Packers D had not played well in the first half like they did this game could have turned out going the other way.
Between the two turnovers and some excellent field position for them the Bears could have stepped on our necks at their place in the 1st half but the D was very good early. Especially with the tight coverage on 3rd down.
One of the best half's against a good offense on the road for the D all year.

In our earlier matchup this year our D played with a lot of lane discipline, stopping the run and containing Krapernick from scrambling. We haven't played with as much lane discipline lately, including yesterday's game against the Bears. The left side of our D collapsed multiple times yesterday, with Lattimore getting sucked inside and the play going off-tackle/outside.

With all of our injuries on D (CM3, Jolly, Perry, etc) it's going to be tough. But SF's D gave up almost 500 yards to Arizona yesterday, with most of that passing. At Lambeau, in the snow/cold, we'll see how well SF does.

First the negative: They killed us with short and medium passes last time - Bolden, Davis, etc., and now they have Crabtree back too. Also, we should NOT get a false sense of security because Kaepernick has been running less this season. There is no reason why he can't, and they may have just been saving him for the right situation - like a playoff game against the Packers.

The good news is: 1. Capers has had two games - arguably two failures - to learn from, and hopefully can put together enough compensation schemes to stop the Niners even with the personnel the Packers have - now made worse without Matthews. 2. With Aaron Rodgers, we can outscore anybody. We have to get over this crap of wasting downs by running consistently on early downs. If we pass first, and then run occasionally to hit 'em by surprise, we will be successful. If we do what so many fools clamor for, run first, we will waste downs, lose possessions, get into too many 2nd and longs, 3rd and longs, etc., and put too much pressure on the passing game. It's NOT forcing the run on early downs that wins games, it's having the CAPABILITY to run that makes a difference. Let Aaron Rodgers be Aaron Rodgers, and we will win games - particularly THIS game.
