The NFL is America’s favorite professional sports league, but which of its teams has the most loyal and supportive fan base? This is not a straightforward question. A ranking based on attendance would be skewed toward teams that play in more populated metropolitan areas, and a ranking based on profitability or revenues would be biased in favor of teams that are currently enjoying more on-field success.

In our series of fan base analyses across leagues, we adjust for these complicating factors using a revenue premium model of fan equity. The key idea is that we look at team box office revenues relative to team on-field success, market population, stadium capacity, median income and other factors. The first step in our procedure involves the creation of a statistical model that predicts box office revenue as a function of the aforementioned variables. We then compare actual revenues to the revenues predicted by the model. Teams with relatively stronger fan support will have revenues that exceed the predicted values, and teams that under perform have relatively less supportive fan bases. We provide more details on the method here and here.

Must have been Cowboys fans cheering when the Packers scored those TDs because it seemed pretty loud on TV.

The Steelers AND Packers are outside of the top 5?

I'm sorry, but it's impossible to decide on who has the best fans using a statistical analysis. Obviously it's wrong because the Packers have to be one of the best fan bases considering how well the fans travel.

So us Packer fans are screwing our ranking because we buy the hell out of every away game we play at. And unlike other teams, the Packers are not as driven by profit so even with the great demand for tickets, they keep the price reasonable (in an NFL standard).

Any ranking that does not have the Packers in the top 2 is a failed ranking.

Any study that relies on twitter followers as a criteria is fundamental flawed in the first place.

Seriously though I can live with the fact that the packers are not #1 but #14. Come on top 2 or 3 or 4 at worst.

teams that I think MAY be considered to have better fans than the Packers. I'm not saying I think they do just that it could be argued they do.

cowboys- There are just a lot of them all over the place and as insufferable as they are you can't deny quantity over quality.

Bears- I know you guys won't like it but they have history and pride just like the Packers do and much more humbleness than a lot of other teams. At least most of the ones I know.

Steelers- Maybe #2 They got the trophys to collect the fans

Chiefs- They know how to bring it.

Redskins- Fiercely loyal IMO especially in light of the train wreck they have going on. Plus they got that name thing going on.

Eagles- Them's just some crazy SOBs over there

Browns- Because of the old time Browns.

As for the other teams listed ahead of them

Patriots- to bandwagony for my taste

Jets- Almost put them in the above list. Fickle but loyal to the team if not the personnel.

Saints- Thanks to Katrina

Giants- See NY Jets

Colts- Just what...I mean seriously... what?

Ravens- Nah, too recent did the Browns fans move with the ravens?

Titans- see Ravens

Chargers- Again what. Apart form the baby blue unis and the San Diego superchargers what have you got. Maybe in the Air Coryell days.

Broncos- Almost made the above list but too trendy. A lot like the patriots.

And the rest
Panthers- Too recent and too isolated

Texans- too recent

vikings- they suck, should be last but but they probably scored higher in the twitter part. I can't think of a team with more twits as fans than the
vikings.

Bengals- Just don't win enough

Rams- moved around too much. No loyalty

Seahawks- Getting there. Loyal to the core but not enough of them. Good candidate for bandwagon fans.

Bills- Should be higher just because anyone at all voluntarily goes to their games in that weather.

Dolphins- Bring back Shula, Griese, Zonk and Warfield and maybe

49ers- Its San Francisco do they care about anything? If they lose just smoke a joint and wait for the next game.

Jaguars- To recent and they suck

Lions- Kind of surprised by this. They certainly have the history. Lack of recent success probably hurts them big time. That and the fact that the Lions are probably worth more than the entire city of Detroit probably pisses some people off.

Buccaneers-Florida can't handle 1 team much less three

Cardinals- I like the Cardinals but no one else does

Falcons- Are they good, are they bad. Should I hate them, Should I like them. No Identity

Raiders- Outside the stadium what do they have. Might be the craziest bunch of bastards but are they as loyal as the Eagles fans? I don't think so.

Oh, and this should be a warning to the rest of you. If you don't want to be part of the 14th ranked fan base go out and sign up for twitter and follow the Packers. I'm off to do it right now. I feel that #14 is my fault somehow. I'm sorry.

OK that's a lie. I'm not going to sign up for twitter.

Story i was just reading was about a guy that waited 30 years for season tickets, when he signed up in the 80's when tickets cost $20 a piece so he signed up for 4 tickets. His cost for 2013 when he finally got his letter and invoice was outrageous.

The tickets I’m getting will cost $82. Four tickets times seven games totals $2,296.

But that’s the cheap part.

A one-time district user fee, more commonly known as a personal seat license, was $2,100 per seat.

So to get the four season tickets, I had to pay an $8,400 district user fee before I even got my ticket invoice for the 2013 season.

So actually how cheap are the tickets? Try getting a ticket to a game at Lambeau you will get very lucky to get one for under $150
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

The in-laws were at the game the other night, they were amazed at the Packer fan presence in the house the Jerry built for a regular season game.. their house.

I get it.. it revolves around money.. but should all aspects of the sport revolve around the greenback?
