Only if people think Raji is the best or second best (i.e., our #1 player in key packages) should overpaying be a possibility.

Now it may be possible that TT/MM/et al consider him that way --- I would hope they don't, but it wouldn't surprise me if they do; in which case overpaying is a real possibility. See, e.g. Brad Jones. Personally, I think Raji should be behind Daniels and Jolly at this point, and arguably behind Jones on the theory that "his potential hasn't been tested yet (unlike Raji's)" theory. But that's me, and my view doesn't count.

And I have no idea what TT/MM might be thinking. Had you told me they would have considered Brad Jones essential a year ago, I would have laughed at you. And we see where that went.

I personally would prefer to pay Jolly, Pickett, and/or Wilson than give Raji even a modest contract. We've already got Daniels, Jones, Worthy, Boyd under contract throw in a couple of the other 3 I mentioned and you still have a deep group.

This entire season, Raji has done absolutely nothing. One thing that was mentioned over the radio yesterday was that when players are on their contract year they typically perform at their best. I think it was just last week, Raji only had 13 tackles on the season.

As his name has been brought up more and more each week, I continued to focus on him playing and he doesn't do much of anything. Daniels, who is much smaller than Raji, gets a lot more push than he does on the offensive linemen....even during a double team. Raji doesn't even require a double team this season. He gets stood up at point of contact and just doesn't move. Its hard to watch.

The only way I can see Raji being salvaged this point as a football player would be to move him back to NT. But then again he doesn't play the run well enough.

I haven't focused in quite as much on Raji this season as it sounds like some others have. However, it really makes one wonder why Raji continues to see the field so much if he is truly playing as bad as some say he is. Where is the accountability? If the guy is truly playing so badly, why is he on the field so much? I don't get it.

Count me among those who will be pissed if Raji gets a big contract. Especially if it means Pickett and/or Jolly are gone.

I've been a HUGE Pickett fan, he's been the glue that has the run DL together IMO, he hasn't offered much in pass rush but Pickett is that guy that's been consistant year in and year out and done the role of clogging the OL with passion and has been great for us.

That being said, seems like I'm noting Pickett less this year. Of course that could mean I'm focusing on the DL less, as run cloggers don't jump out at you. But I would be careful resigning Pickett to make sure it was a deal the Packers could easy get out of if Pickett play level drops from what it has been in the past.

As for as Raji, I don't think he has a passion for being a role player (aka doesn't have a passion for being a run clogger), and think Raji would of been better in an agressive 4-3 defense. Coming out of college Raji was a penetrator and LOVED it, and he was basically Jenkins in college making plays, while Ron Brace was their NT. But Raji didn't have the length to stay at 3-4 DE in the Packers agressive 3-4 style. Packers moved him to NT and it worked for a while including winning a Super Bowl.

But then the Packers defense lost their pass rush and MM/Capers decised to go to more of a traditional 3-4 defense (which is less agressive with their 3-4 DE) and so Raji got to pass rush even less and just haven't been the same, even in the 2-4 where Raji is allowed to be a 4-2 pass rushing DTs.

Jolly, the guy has a lot of passion and I think he clearly has another year in him, but because of his age, like Pickett, I'd be careful and not sign him (or Pickett) to a deal that would be hard to get out, because olders guys could go down quickly.

I like Pickett a lot, but to me it seems we are losing more in Raji with him at DE, than we gain with Pickett at NT.
