Honest question for those who think McCarthy should go: Who do you put in his place? I'm not talking dream scenarios that won't happen, like Holmgren or Cowher - I mean of the coaches that are/will be available, which of those guys would you hire?

I'm not setting anyone up or trolling - I'm curious to know who you would prefer as the coach of the Packers.

For the record, McCarthy's on the hot seat in my book starting... now. If he isn't willing to deal with the members of his staff who've fallen short, that seat will get hotter. If we get a repeat performance of last year w/ the penalties and bizarre inability to maintain proper pad level, I'll be calling for his head. But I'm not ready to say he's done as of now - too soon, IMO.

Over under of 15 before lock down on this thread.. but I have been surprised before..

I happen to agree.. MM starts to earn his stripes this offseason and into next.. time to deal with some of the problems (Penalties and repeat mistakes) this team has experienced in his three year tenure..

But IMO, he has earned the right to prove 07 wasn't a fluke in 09.. at the very least end some of the nagging problems along the oline and penalties.

Thanks for moving this, 93 - I wasn't sure if it was worthy of its own thread, and as you say it'll probably unravel into something I'll wish I hadn't started.

But hey, maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised.

Billick would still be available, I think.

I wouldn't want him to leave though, I pretty much agree with what Pack93 said. He needs the chance to prove that he can get this team back in line and get a winning record next year.

Hmm... I think I personally wouldn't want Billick. I just don't think he's an upgrade over McCarthy. Still, he's a better option than the people I was thinking of, so good call there.

Interesting... hadn't thought along those lines, but why not?

But let's assume that sort of move would entail McCarthy being gone (you know, ego or whatever): who do we get as a head coach?

I'm not in favor of dumping McCarthy either at this point.

But, I'd throw out Steve Spagnola as a possible candidate for the position. Love that Giant defense.

You know, you've got a good point. I've been focussing on coaches I know will be available, and I haven't accounted for assistants.

Spagnola as HC (and obviously concentrating on defense) w/ Billick at OC would not suck, I'll admit that much.

Still too soon to fire McCarthy, IMO, but I like the way y'all are thinking.

How about steal Spagnola for our defense and keep McCarthy?

And yes, I'd like Billick to be our OC. That would be great...Spagnola and Billick as our two coordinators. What a team.
