A roundup of what's happening on the Green Bay Packers beat. GREEN BAY, Wis. -- It went practically unnoticed, but former first-round draft pick Derek Sherrod played his first football in nearly two years on Sunday against the New York Giants. Sherrod, who broke both bones in his lower right leg on Dec. 18, 2011, played exactly three snaps -- all on special teams as part of the field goal/PAT unit. Still, it was a major step for a player who spent most of the last two seasons on the physically unable to perform list.

Maybe it's because Newhouse was lighting it up so well. LOL

That's awesome to hear! Still have high optimism with our team and our depth. The injuries this year have been tough, and of course we all hope next year is kinder to us, but I believe in a lot of the guys we put on the field. I hope to see them play better including Scott. Seeing Sherrod come back on the o-line would be terrific if Barclay remains out and Newhouse proves to show no improvement.

I originally thought Newhouse would be great to have as a back up with some legit experience but it seems to me like he cannot adjust well to playing RT. He's had some good games before playing LT but I can't remember him ever playing decent on the right side. I think I remember reading something about him struggling over there earlier in his career but looking decent at LT.

That performance against the Giants was about as bad as I've seen since Bulaga channeled his inner Allen Barbre vs the Seahawks. Newhouse over there didn't even give us a chance last Sunday. Time to give Sherrod a shot if Barclay cannot go. Maybe he's not ready yet but it's obvious that Newhouse isn't. If Derek struggles well at least he'll be able to learn something from it.

It'd be nice if they could get Sherrod out there for a whole game and see what he's got. Tbh at this point I'm a little more worried about Bulaga's long term health than Sherrod's with back to back years with season ending injuries.

I agree - we have enough decent tackles to last us awhile ... errr as long as they remain free from injuries. Sherrod was supposed to be good; but we never really saw him.

I thought our unit has been doing quite well this year in the run game.
