Tim Masthay's booming leg untested on onside kicks

The Green Bay Packers haven’t had a more devastating weapon on special teams in the last three-plus years than Mason Crosby’s onside kickoffs. That’s in mothballs now. Crosby no longer kicks off.

There are, of course, two kinds of onside kicks - desperation at the end of the game and surprises anytime it seems like a good idea.

If it is desperation/no surprise anyway, Crosby could easily come in and kick it. If it is a surprise at some other point in the game, well, physically anybody could kick it, so let Masthay practice it and learn it. I see no problem with that.

I always thought Crosby had pretty good distance on his kickoffs, but if this is what it takes for him to be accurate on field goals then so be it.
