If Thomas goes anywhere, it would probably be to replace Ryan Clady for the Broncos. Although, that may cause too much trouble next season. But the Broncos should be all in now, imo.

The thought of getting Joe Thomas makes me drool. I just don't see Ted Thompson going for it with having to part with draft pick(s), and the contract issues.

Joe Thomas' contract:

............Base Salary.........Cap hit
2013:....10,000,000.......11,400,000
2014:....10,900,000.......12,300,000
2015:.... 8,800,000.......10,200,000
2016:.... 8,300,000....... 9,500,000
2017:.... 8,800,000.......10,000,000
2018:.... 8,800,000.......10,000,000
2019: UFA

This seems like the kind of situation Ted Thompson just tunes out of - case closed. I would absolutely love for the Packers to get Joe Thomas for a reasonable price, but I really don't think it is gonna happen. It would be an absolute damn shame if some other team needing O Line help got him - the Bears for example.

He won't be had for a first rounder like Richardson (I know you threw in Bulaga and the case of Miller) but I don't think that would even be enough.

If they start a fire sale and get rid of guys like Gordon and Thomas they might as well figure its a 5 year plan at least.

Joe Thomas will be 29 this December. While I would absolutely welcome him in green and gold, I wouldn't bet on the Packers parting with a first-round pick for him. I could see a team dangling a player and a two for him. This does sound like speculation and not actual reporting, though. If the Browns are serious about landing a franchise QB in next year's draft, then having Thomas around to protect his blindside would be a major asset.

I don't see the Browns getting rid of Joe Thomas for just a 1st. I think they didn't think Richardson was as good as his hype and/or they could replace him rather easily.

Though some other Browns players that might be helpful (though I don't think they'd be willing to trade more of them)

OLB Jabaal Sheard
CB Joe Haden
WR Josh Gordon
S T. J. Ward

Actually, I like David Bakhtiari. I think he will be fine developing alongside Josh Sitton. He's played two games, one against one of the top pass rushes in all of football and he played admirably.

If we need a player via midseason trade, it is a veteran, top tier Safety.

A first and a fifth, Yeah, I could maybe see that, I don't know if Cleveland would. 1st and 3rd, now you are getting close to too much. Anything more than that, no way. As others have said, he is 29 and while he is as close to a guarantee as you can get they could take and LT at both those spots and hope to get lucky. I know, I know hope don't get you much, especially looking at their track record on the OL, but they could also package those two picks on draft day and move up to get a better prospect. I know that's still a risk but since you would be getting a younger player I think that would be the more likely route for Ted Thompson to take than to trade.

Also, like others have pointed out, if you are looking for a franchise QB why would you trade away his best protection to get him. Trade away Thomas and you have to spend a high round pick to replace him (in theory) well, you don't have that high round pick because you just traded them all away to get your franchise QB.

He may be a character risk sure but as so many people like to think, Green Bay is the place to go to fix things like that. I wouldn't mind Haden either.

Still, something tells me these guys are not going anywhere unless the current regime is hell bent on putting their mark on this team. Like so many who think the Colts screwed the pooch on this one RBs are easier to replace than those other guys.

beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
