Eddie Lacy hardly had a chance to make an impact in Sunday's Green Bay Packers win. Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather connected on a helmet-to-helmet hit that concussed Lacy.

I hope Meriweather receives a very, very harsh penalty from Roger Goodell. He launched himself not once, but twice. Same for DeAngelo Hall and his helmet to hemet hit on James Jones at the goal line. Oddly enough, none of the three infractions were flagged! Unbelievable.

Apparently, there is a loophole in the rule as to whether or not the defender is lining the opposing player up for the hit... wow. They better figure this out. IMO, all three were instances where the defender launched himself to hit with the crown of his helmet.

Here's to a swift and speedy recovery for Eddie Lacy.

Amazed there were no flags on the hits. The other thing that bothers me is if that is a QB the flag comes out for sure. The rules have become a mess and gives the refs to much influence on the outcome of the game.

Watching Lacy get up dazed after the hit made me sick to my stomach. Obviously you never want to see anybody concussed, but when it is a guy with obvious potential playing in only his second pro game it sucks that much more. I don't know Merriweather from a hole in the wall, but the guy has got issues. I'm not sure how someone who plays like he did looks his teamates in the eyes, much less himself in the mirror. I'm not going to lie, when he laid the lumber on Starks and didn't get up I wasn't exactly broken up about it.

I also agree with the other posters, that kind of hit needs to be called on the field. The three obviously missed calls were ridiculous. Yeah, I know we didn't need the calls to get the win, but that is besides the point. The point is that the NFL needs to penalize these plays consistently in order to deter them from happening so blatantly.

I felt the same way olds, watching that.

It struck me that the NFL could do a much better job of officiating by having an official in the booth at all times - one who could review such a play and eject a player immediately.

Imagine how we would be feeling about this today, if it were Starks who didn't get up...

That would have been BOTH of our backs knocked out with illegal hits, and no penalty flags.

Agreed on the Starks comment. How that hit didn't also end up with a concussion to him amazes me.

With regards to the extra booth official, I almost hesitate to say I would want extra officiating, seeing as how the gameflow is already interupted enough. If you wanted to you could review almost any play and find a way to call holding from the booth, giving the conspiracy theorists more ammo. On the other hand, if you tied the extra booth officials hands and limited him to only making calls to penalize and/or eject players from a game than I would be more on board with it. Obviously there would need to be more thought put into it than this, but on the face it seems like it would be an improvement.
