Obviously the pass defense was horrendous and losing Barnett like that was not a welcomed site by any means.
They mentioned here about CB's dropping off receivers and the DB's not getting there and this was definitely a problem. I personally don't like the concept.
If you are going to run this coverage the CB could at least initially show coverage first rather than face the QB and let the receiver run by them giving any decent QB the read they need to get the ball out.
Secondly, our best cover guys our the Cornerbacks so why let WR's run by them and put it on the DB's to get there in time and cover when they are not our best cover guys?
I know Capers was intent on stopping the run and containing Kaepernick but he sacrificed letting our CB's play man on man which is what they do best but not great in these zone schemes. Couple that with DB's who are late and out of position and you get 400 yard games thrown at you.
