Aaron on the 49ers loss

Okay guys, listen to the last minute of this interview.
(you will have to turn up the volume to hear the question).

If my ears are not mistaken, the question comes from one of the local columnists in Green Bay.
He does the packer interviews on packers.com(well respected guy)

Anyhow, the question was "do you feel there is a gap between these two teams now?"

Aaron's answer to that?

"I don't understand the question"

The columnist repeated it and Aaron smirked with a smug annoyance and replied

"I don't appreciate that question, nor do I understand it..."

That is a legitimate question!!?

Why can't Aaron even be honest about that?

It takes brevity to honestly assess your team.

Aaron could say things like "We are jut not where we need to be..that's the gap"

But instead, he takes this defensive, sour, approach that is starting to leak out about his leadership (ala Greg Jennings and Donald Driver. Personally I think Jennings talks too much and contradicts being humble with his talking..but that's another story for another day).

I met Aaron at the Philadelphia airport, and he seems like an okay guy. But even then, Aaron's personality was a little chippy.

However, this question after the 9ers game was not warranting that kind of response.

Nitpicking? Maybe.

I think he's just trying to not acknowledge a gap and feels his team is still the top dog.

Reality and perception are not always the same, and a 110mil QB would serve himself well to be honest about it.

To me, that would show more leadership.

This is common with the Packers and how they are brainwashed. When do you hear anyone within the Packers say clearly they messed up? Instead you hear "maybe i could have held onto the ball better" or "i might have been in the less optimum position to make the play" or "we gave them the game" or something to that affect.

I bemoaned about this last year too. Just own up to it. You are human. You made a mistake.

Aaron is a bit of a mental case.

It's one of the reasons I believe he's obsessed with Favre's records.

I make no bones about it.. I don't care for the over hype and blame a QB gets.. he is just another player on the squad.

Heck, going to a large number of football camps around the midwest as a youth.. and having to look at the freaking red pansy ass jersey probably has buried more bias into me than it should.

But I don't see the issue with this response.. for a couple different reasons.

1. I get Aaron Rodgers to a large point.. ultra competitive and becomes emotionally invested. I got my ass handed to me a number of times on the field.. but after each snap, no matter how badly I was getting whipped... I would line up pissed that I was getting whipped.

Of course this is very different and hardly compare in scale, but you damn skippy that I probably wouldn't admit the guy across from me was better... goes back to the competitiveness ingrained in the person.

2. Personally, I think post game interviews are somewhat skewed based on the range of emotions these guys go through. I think candor and responses should be measured differently based on the time the interviews are conducted. Midweek at a presser.. yeah, I probably would react differently to Q&A answers than post game.

The Packers have worked all off season focused on this single game.. and came up short. I get the disappointment and any "offense" taken based on interview questions in a post game setting.

3. I truly think Rodgers messes with the media.. a bit.

What would Rodgers saying "yes, there is a gap between our two teams" accomplish in a positive way for him and for his team? Just curious.

Even if there was a gap, I'd expect him to lie about it.

1. He's a quarterback. He's supposed to be an asshole from time to time. It's part of the job description.

2. Who cares if a "journalist" feels put upon? Soon people are going to be upset about someone being nasty to a lawyer.

3. Wait a minute. Florio's already done that. Never mind.
