Given the unfortunate luck Green Bay Packers first-round picks have had recently with injuries, part of you holds your breath at news that rookie first-round pick Datone Jones sprained his ankle during the team’s 17-0 preseason-opening loss to the Arizona Cardinals Friday night.
And the fact that coach Mike McCarthy had no update on the defensive end’s condition Saturday wasn’t exactly comforting, either.
It would still seem likely that Jones will be OK after suffering the injury on the only snap he played against the Cardinals. But McCarthy wasn’t able to say that Saturday afternoon, 20 hours after the injury happened.
“As far as the medical I do not really have any more information for you on Datone. He’s going to go through some more testing this afternoon,” McCarthy said at his 3:30 p.m. press briefing at Lambeau Field. “We’ve been in meetings throughout the afternoon so I don’t have an update on him or a timeline.”
