Packers defensive lineman Johnny Jolly's NFL career appeared to be over when he was suspended by the NFL and sent to prison on drug charges. But Jolly is back, says he has turned his life around, and was on the field Friday night for the preseason opener against the Cardinals — his first NFL game...

it was suggested during the game he did well - but whom is he competing against and how many Dline will we keep is the question. I know in the practices it was suggested he was tiring out and started to lose focus and stamina.

Yeah, but what he's done so far should be the worst - onward and upward from there. His conditioning should improve, and he probably will be a "spot" player anyway. Maybe he wasn't in there against the Cardinals first team, but he was playing against a bunch of motivated young guys struggling to make their team. One positive for Jolly making the team, although it's a negative in general, is how bad the pass rush was for the guys playing ahead of him.

Who cares who he was playing against. His responsibility is to play well no matter whose across from him, and he did. He has no control over the opposing team. He looked better than most, if not all, of the Packers defensive line, who was also playing against 2nd, 3rd, and 4th stringers. If Jolly keeps up this level of play and continues to improve (as he should), I don't see anyway that he doesn't make the Packers team. If so, he should make a nice depth player.

Still on the bubble I believe, but if he keeps it up and improves as Dodd says then he should make the team and provide us qualified, experienced depth at defensive tackle.

You could sure see his excitement when he chugged out on to the field on a couple of shortage plays.

In his first game action since Jan. 10, 2010, defensive tackle Johnny Jolly showed some of the power he had before his three-year suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. Jolly increased his chances of making the team during his 23-play stint, showing off an effective spin move that resulted in a near sack on a third-down play and later splitting a pair of blockers to blow up a run that went for a 3-yard loss. Jolly still needs to work on his conditioning and shed some weight, but it looks like he has a legitimate shot to complete his comeback.

It looks like at a minimum he will either be a great backup/depth, or a solid starter, atleast in some packages.

It will take some time, but I would suspect he will be a contributor on this team. He has experience and has proven in the past that he can be a game changer. My only concern is that he stays focused on football and leaves his past behind him where it belongs. I am actually more than happy to see the guy back, always liked seeing him on the field. Shake off the rust Jolly and show the rest of the line how it is done!
