WTF???

This is ridiculous. I cannot believe how many of our players are out, unavailable. I understand this is the NFL, but, McCarthy said they were going to make availability a priority. Giant FAIL. They had better get this shit squared away. Mark Lovat needs to go.

Only a fool makes the same mistakes over and over, expecting different results. I think the adjustment they need to make is to their staff - get better people in there who will keep this team healthy. Mark Lovat and his staff clearly are struggling, yet again. How many more years of this will it take for McCarthy to make a change?

We have to be one of the most injured teams in the NFL, for at least the last 4 years running... WE HAVE 6 GUYS ON THE PUP, AND WE HAVEN'T PLAYED OUR FIRST PRESEASON GAME!

Last season, the 49ers were the hallmark for player availability. As of today, they have 3 players on their PUP, with 7 players sitting out practice. We have 14 sitting out.

When I was younger 17-20 I weight trained a lot (bodybuilder type) - and I used to injure myself a lot... Then I started stretching to a high degree before working out. And on off days. My injuries went down dramatically and my downtime also went down. (often stretched at least 20-30 pre workout and stretched during) and then spent say 30 mins stretching on off days.

I don't work out so much anymore but with my work as a chiropractor Im a big proponent of stretching still; can usually help most people stay and become more healthy.

anyways my point is - I bet you most of these players are not stretching enough. All of these hammy injuries. bicep, quads, stomach - maybe knees but not so sure; and back injuries.

When I watched practice, I was commenting on how lethargic the players looked while stretching. I didn't witness any actual stretching going on. It looked like they were just going through the motions. It really bothered me to the point I wanted to get up and run over and shout at them.

I was talking with the Sports Director here at the station this morning about this very topic.

We both were involved in athletics in our school days, mine being about 20 years earlier than his.

Our feeling is The NFL is becoming way to soft.

Let me explain.

Athletes today are bigger, faster and stronger than those of the past, yet Training camp seems to have become less and less about getting in football shape.

Neither of us remember so many injuries accuring say 20-30 even 40 years ago.

I know todays athlete trains all year long, but there is something to be said about the lack of 2 a days, the lack of real contact at TC.

Hell it's in their contract that teams can only have so many practices with pads on, so many full contact practices.

My sports Director also made the observations that maybe just maybe todays althlete is just getting to big for certain areas of the body to stand up to all the pressure put on it.

I know some on here have went through 2 a days and other summer training for High School and College, just my opinion that the # of injuries occurring in todays NFL could be lessened if the players had to work a little harder to get ready for The Season.

I believe there is big merit to the notion of players' bodies becoming too massive for their frames/tendons, etc, leading to more injuries. As a whole it makes sense.

But, my concern is the utter lack of responsibility in addressing what has become an ongoing problem for our team for more than 4 years consecutively. Either McCarthy needs to be held accountable for not seeing this is rectified, or our Strength & Conditioning staff members. Read an article this morning with a mention of Thompson's displeasure in not being able to evaluate either of Charles Johnson or Kevin Dorsey (fuck, I had to look up their names, they've been that insignificant!), with both players having been to just 2 practices between them. Unbelievable.

And, Zero2Cool, if you were seeing this, why wasn't the man in charge? That is the thing that blows me away. This was an ENORMOUS problem for us in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Now we are heading into 2013 with 14 players unable to practice. I cannot fathom that.

Would we have won a Superbowl in 2011 with half of our injuries? Maybe. Same for 2012. Players, really great players for us, being unavailable due to injury is a bigger problem than Mike McCarthy is making it out to be. He is not getting the job done here. I wish he would be more proactive in recognizing this problem, and in getting it fixed.

Just thought I'd look in on the Falcons. They have 4 players out. 4.

I have a cardo workout with a trainer 3 days a week. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think, "If I was on a high school football team they would have people walking the lines making sure I and the others did these moves correctly."

We are all over 40 some over 60 and everyone does their own interpretation of the stretches and moves. Perhaps they should take a look at Crimson Tide's Capt. Ramsey method of training: "Some of the things they do, uh, defy belief. Their training program is simplicity itself. You just stick a cattle prod up their ass and you can get a horse to deal cards. [Chuckles] Simple matter of voltage."

I'll go ahead and include my reply to wpr's post here too. I am over 60 - well over, and yeah, less flexible in a lot of ways, but that doesn't translate to injuries. I have NEVER stretched in my life. I just get out there and do it - nowadays some still fairly heavy duty tennis. I've never had a significant injury, hardly ever even muscle pulls or other less significant stuff. I see/hear of SO SO many significant or just nagging injuries, and I have to wonder why - for such top flight athletes. My theory is that too many people/trainers/coaches follow too much trendy advice that just maybe in some ways, does more harm than good.

eHe had validity, from my point of view. He was introduced by the previous classes' "valedictorian". The old guy had to be in his mid-80's. The young Marine introducing him was 6' 3" or better... He did the "dip", announced, "TAE KWON", slapped his hands to his sides and the old fart sprinted down and jumped right over his head, in the front kick attack position. It was a good introduction. When I finagled my way into that class, I thought I was gonna be "skating" for 6 months. I thought I was pretty bright until that moment. He was a merciless.

We melicans no stletch. Not know how. Malines worst. Too much physical without stletch. tellible. I teach you stletch.

That was about it on his Engrish, so I reckoned it was a priority, and it was. The stletching was 90% of the art.

He fucking did. (teach) I didn't even get to wear shoes for those 6 months.


I'm totally unqualified to teach stletch. I know it as good as any Amelican, but that ain't shit, friend.

Get a Tae kwon Do or Kung fu master. THEY know stletch, to an absolute science. 😆
