He might be loaded up with extra padding.

They are requiring more padding this year. Maybe he had a bruised rib and he wants the abdo pad.

Sounds like Lacy had a good day.

With a practice heavy on red zone drills, Lacy had a breakout performance. Though it was not live tackling to the ground, there was enough contact in full pads to see all the power and force behind the 5-foot-11, 230-pounder (or so he’s listed).

On four red zone carries, he appeared to score touchdowns from the 11-, 5-, and 3-yard lines, although without live tackling it’s impossible to say whether all three were definite scores. On a fourth carry, he turned what looked like a sure 2- or 3-yard loss into a 2- or 3-yard gain by using the spin move he often employed in college at Alabama to avoid a defender.

Meanwhile, Franklin's not ready for pass pro.

If you’re going to play running back for Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy, there’s one thing you better learn in a hurry: pass protection ranks high on the job description list.

As impressive as fourth-round draft pick Johnathan Franklin of UCLA has looked carrying the ball -- his speed and shiftiness have been on display daily -- he appeared overmatched on Tuesday morning during a one-on-one drill that called for the running back to block a blitzing linebacker.

Franklin had all kinds of trouble with outside linebacker Nick Perry. To be sure, Perry has a 60-pound advantage over the 205-pound Franklin, but the Packers expect the running back to at least slow down the blitzer’s path to the quarterback. Instead, Franklin allowed Perry to overpower him. Later in the same drill, Franklin fared no better against rookie outside linebacker Donte Savage.

I enjoy hearing that all four RBs are doing well in camp and I only hope it continues as we get into preseason games. If all four RBs are still performing well, it will be very interesting to see what the Packers do out of the backfield because let's not forget, Randall Cobb is also still taking snaps from the position as well (so far). It will also be interesting to see the fate of DuJuan Harris if these guys continue to play well.

Side note, and maybe I am overreacting...does anyone think Lacy looks a bit fat? I know he has always been a "bigger" player but this recent picture of him made me do a double take. He just seems a bit larger than usual. Probably will be shed throughout camp and preseason...

Lifted from one of the Packers.com weekend training camp photo galleries, the image of Lacy turning his body to prepare for a catch went viral on Twitter on Monday afternoon because it seemed to accentuate a soft abdominal region and physique unbecoming an NFL running back.

For a lack of a better term, it made Lacy look fat.

Many national media outlets picked up on the photo, believing it served as confirmation of many scouts’ pre-draft fears about Lacy’s commitment and love for the game.

Listed at 5-foot-11, 230 pounds, Lacy declined to say what his exact weight is when meeting with reporters, other than to claim it’s exactly where he and the organization want it to be.

McCarthy concurred, telling reporters if the team’s second-round pick from April’s NFL draft hadn’t met conditioning requirements, he wouldn’t be on the field.

“Eddie Lacy going through the conditioning tests, he was fine,” McCarthy said. “Any time our players come in, we have a physical, conditioning tests. If we had concerns about any of our guys, they wouldn’t be on the field.”

You are not alone Yerko. Seems everyone is talking about it. Maybe there is a little more to Lacy's weight than what the Packers want to admit publicly. At least they have time to get him into playing shape.

Armchair psychology analysis: the guy splurged on food like a kid would and not because he doesn't care. The guy put on a little weight but nothing to panic about.

Edit: People are making a big deal out this? Real bad angle+position of Lacy's hips/waist in the photo.

dfosterf (18-Aug) : We do have good depth at running back imo. Still so frustrating. Bitching about it is a futile excercise, which I plan to do anyway.

beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
