We entered this season thinking that the LB group was a strength on defense, and it turns out that they were the #1 weakness. This may have something to do with the D-line not tying up enough blockers to allow them to work, it may be coaching, it may be unrealistic expectations, or a combination of all three. Personally, I think that the group we have is pretty decent. I think we underestimated Barnett and blamed him for a lot of the team's woes early on, until we saw how horrible they looked with someone else in there at MLB. I have to believe it's the scheme, and if not the actual design, then the mentality that the coaches are teaching our players - react to what is happening i.e. let the offense dictate your play. Focus mainly on gap discipline and assignment during the play. Etc... it just isn't working. Our LB's have been hamstrung by all of it.

To me, the defensive problems are first scheme, and then positional coaching. Too much talent playing far too miserably far too often.

Simply put, Sanders and/or Moss has (have) mismanaged Hawk.

He shouldn't be MLB ahead of Bishop.

Something has to be wrong with Hawk, he looks like a 4.8 40 speed play on the field, very slow. If he isn't being hampered by injuries, then there is a really bad problem ...

Exactly. You have an outside backer playing in the middle for the first time since High School.

Whomever decided to make the switch like that obviously is to stubborn to admit the mistake. That falls in line with the Bob Sanders and Mike McCarthy coaching.

Bishop should be in the middle and Hawk on the weakside.

I personally still believe A.J. Hawk is going to be a good player. Nick Collins came on in his fourth year. I believe Hawk will next year. However, Hawk needs a change for that to happen. I believe the D-Coordinator is where to start and move Hawk back to where he belongs which is on the weakside.

Hopefully Barnett comes back and maybe move him to the strong side and play Bishop in the middle.

Quite frankly I kind of think Desmond Bishop is on the same level as Hawk right now so why he's not on the field and Poppinga and Chillar are is just mind blowing. I don't understand that logic.

All good and well, porky....but we need the aggressive, attacking Nick Barnett of 2007 and not the tentative, poor tackling Barnett of 2008.

I think there is a combination of things that are affecting him. First, he was hurt early. It definitely affected his play early. Then switching to MLB. I think that was a smart move to try. The team was getting killed by the run and his added size over bishop should have helped against the run.

Since then the pass D has suffered. with the combination of Woodson covering safety.

I am willing to chalk this year up to a 1 bad year and hopefully he comes back next year full strength, healthy for the year and sticks in one position.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

GB does not have outstanding LB's. They are not aggressive enough and are poorly coached. GB's defensive coaches have been outsmarted by almost every Offensive Co-ordinator in the NFL. There isn't one LB that could compare with Nitschke for hitting ability or aggressiveness. Face it Greenway of the Vikes is a far better LB then Hawk Ok what's the chances GB will lose to the Lions and where will that leave Ted Thompson in the draft? Ready for another 1st round Harrell? LMAO
