The NFL is changing.  Gradually but definitely, the 100-yard version of the game is becoming more like the 50-yard indoor variety, with plenty of points and yards and defenses that merely hope to make a periodic stop. The Packers have epitomized that style in recent years, and coach Mike McCarthy embraces it. “Running the football

So, are you all willing to agree that Mike cares more about scoring more often, than he does about 1: controlling time of possession and 2: preventing the other team from scoring?

EDIT: JSO

"At the end of the day, our job ultimately is to put the ball in the end zone. I don't play keep away. I think there's two schools of thought when you play football. Some guys like to shorten the game, play great defense, play field position and try not to lose it. I want to play as fast as I can and throw as many punches as I possibly can and beat you as bad as I can. That's the way we play."

In other words, we don't care about defense. We want to rack up points and stats on offense.

The Packers sure have done a good job controlling the ball lately on offense for a team that doesn't care about controlling it. The time of possession problem is mostly on the defense and no it's not because they are "tired" or "worn out" it's because they cannot get their asses off the field on 3rd downs. You are always just making shit up.

NFL doesn't require lots of points. It requires one more point than the other team. Think about THAT!

I take his statements to mean it's the offenses job to score points, and it's the defenses job to stop the other team from doing so. It's a rudimentary statement: score a ton of points on offense and limit the points the other team with your defense and the team is going to be winning many more games than they lose. It's an aggressive style, not unlike Sean Peyton runs in New Orleans. Tired or not, the defense has to make more stops. Like Gilbert Brown said in his recent interview, the lackluster performance of the defense has as much to do with injuries causing a talent drain as anything else. If the Packers stay relatively healthy like the 49'ers did last season, they can keep up with anyone. If not, they still can, but it will be much more difficult.

I read the McCarthy quote in the article and I said "Hell Yeah".

You score those points, get occasional stops, get as many turnovers as possible while giving up damn near none. THAT is how you score more points than your opponent. Being able to run clock late in the game is a luxury, not a necessity - a luxury the Packers may now actually have. Mostly, the ability to run sets up the ability to pass better/longer/more efficiently. Imagine Aaron Rodgers without the handicaps he has played with! And if a team sells out completely to stop Rodgers, now finally, we can run it down their throat - but just until they go back to a normal defense and Rodgers can tear them a new one in bigger chunks.
