Despite being predictably quiet throughout free agency, the Packers have successfully locked up perhaps their two most valuable players. The team locked up quarterback Aaron Rodgers and linebacker Clay Matthews to long-term contract extensions. Matthews signed a five-year deal that makes him the highest-paid defensive player in football, while Rodgers became the highest-paid player in [...]

I'm a bit confused about something. I keep reading that this is Raji's "final year of his rookie contract."

But when I look his contract up it has

2013: $4.49 million,
2014: $2.1325 million (Voidable Year),

My question has been, "Who has control of that voidable year?"

I've gotten some unofficial answers (which I'm not sure if they're correct or not) saying it's a team option voidable year.

If so then the Packers has him under contract this year and next.... correct?

Anyways I liked one comment MM talked about at the end of the last season. He said he thinks the coaches are focusing the players too much on using the correct techniques, and moving forward they're going to be trying to focus on going all in and all effort and beat the guy across from you no matter techniques your in.

Sounded like they're still going to be teaching correct techniques but the coaches are going care about it less as long as you're giving 100% effort and beating the guy which sounded good to me.

I remember Cobb's first game, he scored two touchdowns and it was a reported that he got a failing grade on both of them because he didn't follow the plays. (he ran the wrong route on one of them and his guy covering him was in a zone and switched off of him and onto another guy and Rodgers still found him even though he ran the wrong route).

Where are you looking up his contract? Spotrac.com has his rookie contract listed as 5 years. 9,10,11,12,13 = 5.

But if you click this link and look under college it says contract. Click there and it says

"8/13/2009: Signed a five-year, $22.9 million contract. The deal contains $17.7 million guaranteed, including a $2.4 million signing bonus and a second-year roster bonus of $7 million. Also included is a $5.22 million "likely to be earned" onetime bonus for Raji playing 35% of the defensive snaps in any given year. Another $5.6 million is available through incentives, but they are "unlikely to be earned." 2013: $4.49 million, 2014: $2.1325 million (Voidable Year), 2015: Free Agent"

Raji just a 1 year wonder!!!!

All talk, no production!!!

Another Ted Thompson BUST!!!!!

But as Ted did with Hawk and Jones, he will resign Raji, overpay him, because Raji is one of his boys!!

FIRE TED THOMPSON!!!!!!!

It's logical to assume the "voidable" thing is a team option because his salary is so low that season - presumably because of earlier bonuses.

Because of that team-advantageous situation in 2013 in addition to the questionable performance at best for Raji the past couple of seasons, I doubt they extend him or re-work anything until after he proves he is worth it this season, and then, there's a fairly strong chance of losing him to somebody who sees him as better.

I'd honestly rather see that than the Packers overpaying him.

I haven't found anything about an optional 6th (other than the rotoworld link.) 🤷

Raji is for all intents and purposes entering his final season, considering his rookie contract contains a voidable year in 2014.

I THINK i figured out the voidable year thing... I read something on a blog. It sounds like a couple of teams/players/agents went the route of the voidable year idea including WR Michael Crabtree who was picked right after Raji.

Well first off I don't know if Raji had a voidable year or not.

BUT my understanding is that for those who did go that route it was based on incentives. If they didn't reach those incentives then the team got that extra year. If they did reach the incentives then that year was voided.

I believe I heard Raji had reached all of his incentives marks a little while back. So IF he did have the voidable year thing in his contract it's probably voided already and there for not there.
