Packers trying to become more efficient forcing fumbles

A year ago, Packers defensive coaches spent the offseason talking about tackling. This year, they have a new emphasis, and it’s changing the way practice looks. Unhappy with the number of fumbles they’re creating, the Packers are treating every ball in OTAs as if it’s a live ball, diving on dropped passes and swarming to

At love this idea in theory. Make the defenders run to the ball every time make it so AT LEAST the closest 3 to 5 guys have to go to it. The NT might not always go and the CBs if on the compete other side mgiht not go, but make them husstle to it at full speed as a group. The ball is always live. Make them group tackle... they're have to every Vikings game for a while.

The Bears, meanwhile, recovered an NFL-best 107 fumbles during that same time frame under Smith, or nearly double the number the Packers did. Interestingly, the three teams that were the best at recovering fumbles since 2006 are the Bears, the Detroit Lions (106) and Minnesota Vikings (95), all of the Packers’ NFC North rivals.

Packers are known for interceptions, moreso than fumbles recovered.
