Reports were Rodgers agent was asking 23 per year, Packers offered 21 per year. Most were saying come to the middle, agree, sign move on. Sounds like that is what happened.

As for striving to be highest paid ... he wasn't. And he won't be for long. It's not really a title worth giving. Especially with how they structure the contracts so goofy.

I really like the deal. It's 22m/year in new money but with what he was scheduled to make this year it makes it something like a 130m, 7 year contract which is really good.

Generally a level deal, some report said cap hit is never more than 21m in a year. Much better than the Brees or Flacco deals which jump to 30+m in some years.

No wonder Ted keeps trading down in the draft, he can't afford to pay anyone else.

I'm glad they got this deal done, but something doesn't add up. He gets $17.5 then $110 million for 5 years yet the came hit is "never more than $21 million a year"? Years 3-7 , even if it is straight line, would be 110 divided by 5 = $22 million. Any deviation from straight line would mean higher cap numbers at some point. No big deal, I'm just saying the statement "never higher than $21 million" has to be wrong.

Aaron Rodgers: “Pay Me Like Tony Romo, or I’ll Start Playing Like Him”

You want to see me start throwing interceptions late in a game when we’re trying to protect a lead? Or how about a fumble on a crucial third and long? Maybe you’d like it if I bungled some basic clock management on a potential game-winning drive? Hell, I could even take over as the holder for field goals, and let a snap slip right through my fingers on what could have been a playoff-clinching field goal. Do you want to watch me do any of those Tony Romo things? You don’t? Well then you better crack open the vault, because either I get Tony Romo cash, or you get Tony Romo play. The choice is yours.

People just like to quote the "new money" to make it sound higher than it is.

I doubt it, because Rodgers doesn't seem like he needs money all the time (like say Revis does). He also shares an agent with both Matthews and Raji. Also he's been quoted as saying he thinks they'll get a new contract before he does... and next year is a contract year for them.

Rodgers will be paid $40 million this year

Rodgers will make $40 million in 2013, some of which is bonus money, a league source told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen. The deal will add five years on top of the two years Rodgers has remaining on his contract and will keep him in Green Bay through the 2019 season, a source told Schefter.

Rodgers will make $62.5 million from 2013 to 2015 and $110 million in new money over the course of the extension, a source told ESPN
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)
