I think Woodson is done in Green Bay for good, unless there are multiple secondary injuries early. I'm sure he wouldn't mind coming back, but I think when Ted Thompson makes a release like this, it's for good. As it likely should be, pending extenuating circumstances.

I don't see Charles Woodson back in Green Bay. The organization has moved on.

Seriously, you are most likely correct. I believe Woody overvalued himself, as many players do. However, if the Packers can't pick up a good prospect in the draft and what we have isn't panning out as good as they would like, or there's injuries there may be a need for the Packers. Woody might have gained a more accurate value on his worth and a reasonable number might be worked out. I agree the intent of both parties is to move on, but footballs bounce in funny ways sometimes.

Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?

I don't know for sure, but I think Charles Woodson said he wasn't approached about a reduced contract with the Packers. Initially, I thought the Packers didn't out of respect for him. Maybe after seeing no one is signing him, out of respect and more importantly, out of need they offer him a modest contract?

That poses the question ... are the Packers better with Charles Woodson?

I am a football player. I am not a corner, I am not a safety; I am just a guy that can play football. You can put me in anywhere on that field, in any situation, and I am going to get it done. I call myself ‘Seasoning Salt:’ You can put me in anything and I will make it better. I am just waiting on an opportunity.

Honestly I didn't see much of a difference in safety play between when Woodson was in there and when McMillian/Jennings was in last season.

Obtuse for sure... it would be curious and I wonder what Woodson is asking for in terms of salary.

Source...

Packers general manager Ted Thompson is known for playing things close to the vest in the buildup to the NFL Draft -- and really in regard to pretty much every subject -- so his 20-minute meeting with reporters Thursday in Green Bay produced the expected amount of obtuse answers and little if any news.

....

What about giving thought to bringing back future Hall of Famer Charles Woodson, released by the Packers at season's end, if the team can't upgrade its safety situation in the draft?

"Oh, I wouldn't care to speculate about that."

dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
