My God, every thread I read on this site reminds me so much of the hopeless optimism and hubris of the 70's and 80's! Seriously, I'm sh itting myself laughing here reading all of these comments! "Just wait until next year" "The coach and GM are doing a good job; they just need time" etc. ad nauseum. You people are priceless! And obviously too young to know that this situation occurred here before. I sat through 20+ years of other Mike McCarthy's and Ted Thompson's a long time ago, and it took two guys, Reggie White and Favre to come here and bail this outfit out of those 20 years of failure, when we had no right to expect it.

A little prognostication here: Reggie White and Brett Favre, much like Jesus Christ and John the Baptist, aren't likely to reappear anytime soon.

But keep up the optimism; it keeps me smiling!

Ron Wolf bailed the organization out by getting White/Favre/Keith Jackson/Desmond Howard through trade and free-agency. It remains to be seen whether Ted Thompson (who in my opinion drafts very well--not perfect, but overall very nice) will be able to accomplish the same thing. He shows some signs, bringing in Charles Woodson and Ryan Grant through free-agency and trade, but in my opinion hasn't yet risen to the Ron Wolf level.

There is absolutely no logic to the implied syllogism I see reiterated all over the internet:

Major premise: We had 20 years of mediocrity before Brett Favre and Reggie White arrived in Green Bay.
Minor premise: Brett Favre and Reggie White are no longer in Green Bay.
Conclusion: Therefore, we are doomed to 20 more years of mediocrity in Green Bay.

It's nothing more nor less than pure speculation at best . . . and a moronic non sequitur at worst.

Season Over As Of Today

I know the playoffs are what it's all about. I know this has been a disappointing season with tight loss after tight loss, tough referee calls piling on top of huge numbers of penalties, a defense falling apart at the seams when we were expecting so much... but the season is NOT over. Let's see how this team performs when their pride is on the line. Let's see if they can play spoilers to a division rival and beat the bloody piss out of the Bears one more time this year. Let's see how this youngest team in the NFL develops game after game.

I'm as disappointed as anyone that we are basically out of the playoffs, but I am still going to watch the remaining 3 games and cheer this team on. It was a rough year, but I still love this team. We have a first year QB putting up a 90+ rating, a YOUNG team, and high expectations for next year. This is not the time for everyone to hang their heads. Let's hope for some crushing wins to build momentum for 2009, just like we did in 2006.

I really don't care how many times we make the playoffs. If anything, defeats in the playoffs are more disappointing than lousy seasons -- because expectations get so high. In the end, what I look forward to are Superbowl victories, and those have been pretty rare about these parts the last decade or so.

dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.

Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : And then he signs with Cleveland in the offseason
Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : @SharpFootball WR Diontae Johnson just admitted he refused to enter a game in 41° weather last year in Baltimore because he felt “ice cold”
