This thing has only begun in earnest, and I'm surprised my power lasted through the first big gust a few minutes ago.

Oh, and I have pneumonia, my wife has had to do all the prep, and she isn't taking this as seriously as I would have if able to do so.

Example- My neighbor Ed knew something was up yesterday-- Came over and wanted to know why the hell my gutters weren't cleaned... My wife told him, and he went up on my roof and did it for me.

My wife went to work as she has a "bid due". I strongly suspect she made a huge mistake.

This is going to be very ugly.

I'll take an earthquake any day of the week over those storms/hurricanes/gales/whatever you all get out there.

The hope, mine anyway, is that the damage as limited as it can be with this type of storm, and that the safety of the many is better than anticipated.

Also.. get healthy my "Crony" of a friend.

sorry you are in a mess. It is nice to have a neighbor who helps out. I cleaned my elderly neighbors gutters more than a few times.
Hope you feel better soon. I have had a nagging cough for a couple of weeks now. My wife keeps telling me to see the Dr. I ignore her. Mine seems to be getting better even if it is taking awhile. I tell her it was just the insulation dust I breathed in and it is working its way out of my lungs.

Anyone who is out there, stay safe and evacuate when you are told to. Sound like something you are not going to want to sit out.

Great news on the storm situation! Yesterday afternoon the wind was so bad against my garage door that the hinges to each section were popping and stripping the bolts securing them to the door itself. The force was so strong that you could not physically press that little point at the hinge back in place manually. I took several 2x6's, some carpet padding, (to protect the bumpers) and wedged the 2x6's between the cars and the door. Worked like a dream! Now I don't know if I have any shingles left, and am fearful to even look outside once we have light, but the important thing I wanted to report is that the Green Bay Packers stock certificate ( which resides in the garage) is unscathed.

A man must establish his priorities.

That was a stressful evening. The sound and feeling was a constant "pulsing freight train"-- just not having to listen/feel that anymore is relief. We lost power at about 6 PM, and I was amazed it lasted that long. Then we had a divine / PPL intervention (Pennsylvania Power and Light 😛 )) . Somehow, someone was able to restore power to us about 2 hours later. When you are looking at a scenario of not having power for the next week plus - sick as a dog- to have it come on and stay on is nothing short of a miracle.

I appreciate the Godsend even more as I type this, as the "cold-side" of this storm is upon us, and we would be quite miserable without heat. I don't know if this good fortune will last, as the local news is showing several power lines in very close proximity where things like light poles (lit) have the light itself about 2 feet off the ground- I'd call that tenuous.

I also seem to be a little better health-wise. I couldn't have asked for better luck, and we needed it.

The damage I'm aware of in my neighborhood is extensive, we shall see how we fared in a bit.

Good to hear that you are still riding out the storm, as it were Dave.

Sincerely hope that all goes as well as can be expected for this evolution.

Take care and be safe my friend and just ignore DakotaT's comments as he truly is a dumbass of the lowest order.
And I believe that you need to explain to that numbnuts the difference between "Gunny" and "Gunner" again.
Providing pictures might prove useful, as DT's reading comprehension skills are sorely lacking.

Keep us updated.....Gunner 👍
