That's the exact reason why he was a 2nd rounder and not a 1st round guy. He just lacks straight line speed. Some actually had him as a safety before the draft.
His stats and smarts where quite amazing, though. Something you're seeing pretty clearly now.
He actually reminds me a bit of Tramon. Ran a 4.59, nearly identical to Hayward's 4.57 combine 40, but both play faster than that. They both thrived on intelligence and vision in college, making up for some of that lack of raw physical ability like Shields has, but still better athletes than given credit for.
Of course, he's not Tramon yet, but this guy could have a bright future.
