I'm still trying to get over Monday night's horrific loss.

Throughout the course of discussions on the blown call, I have heard time and time again that Green Bay doesn't have a running game. Talk radio. National pubs and blogs. Not the driven topic given the wight of the others, but mentions along these lines.

This is a misconception, from my perspective. I feel Mike McCarthy is responsible for not calling an adequate running assault upon our opponents. He is making this game WAY more complicated than it needs to be. Line your guys up and let them tee off on the opposing DL early and often. Commit to this, even when it - seems - it isn't working early, it really is. That is what keeps the opposing D honest, and keeps your MVP QB safe.

I'm hoping Mike McCarthy takes a good, long look at how he called Monday's game, and decides it is high time he really and truly commits to the running game in his play calling. He is the one who leads this team and has ALL the say. He should dedicate himself to that now, especially after seeing how other teams are adjusting to us passing on nearly 70% of our downs: pinning their ears back and going after Rodgers.

We have a solid running game, and Mike needs to use it - WAY MORE OFTEN! We don't have one if he doesn't call for it. Monday's loss could have easily been averted had he made the proper adjustments and ran more early to take the heat off of Rodgers. The blown call would have been a non-issue.

In my eyes, Mike McCarthy is no genius, not now. He will be if he gives his backs 25+ carries per game. Mike! The game is much easier than you are making it. Run the football! Let your OL tee off on the opponent and wear them down. Physically wear them down. It will open everything else up that you want to do. Run the football!

🇲🇲 is a brilliant HC. I'd put him in the top 5. In fact, I'd like to see someone name 5 HCs better than him.

I was a 🇲🇲 fan since '07. I thought his play-calling was superb. Well, almost every game. I thought he should have overrode the DC in the '07 loss to the Giants, but that's a different story.

Everyone knows how pro-pass I am. However, I also believe in playing to your strengths.

We simply do not have a good passing OL. 8 sacks in one half? (Granted, 2 or 3 of them were 🇦🇷's fault). That's a sign of less than adequate pass protection.

We do however have a decent run blocking unit. It's decent. Not good, but definitely better for run blocking than pass blocking.

I'd say shoot Benson right up the middle at least 10 times a half. Or at least call those plays. Between the tackles. Benson's too slow to run outside. Of course, allow 🇦🇷 to override the play if he sees something on the field he can exploit. 🇦🇷's a smart QB.

In 2010, I would have said you're completely wrong. In 2012, we unfortunately don't have a choice. 2010 was the best OL we've had under the 🇹🇹/🇲🇲 years. So far, it's looking like 2012 is the worst.

Please don't get me wrong. I love Mike McCarthy. The guy is solid, and a brilliant offensive football mind. Someone mentioned "ego" in another thread. I question whether his ego as a "genius" OC has inhibited his own success and that of his team's by putting more emphasis on the passing game v. the running game.

For instance, the ego in calling a brilliant passing attack with one of the NFL's best, if not THE best passer, may have tipped the scales, and thus our offense out of balance.

As it stands, Mike's offense has allowed Rodgers to be sacked 16 times in just 3 games. That is outrageous. Through 3 games our RBs have only gotten 53 carries, averaging 17 att/game.

v. SEA our RBs had 3 carries in the 1st half. One of those, Cobb busted 20 yds. Benson had 2 carries for 4 yds. No wonder Rodgers got pummeled for 8 sacks in the half. Our RBs rushed 15 att in the 2nd half, for not a whole lot of yds, but Rodgers wasn't sacked.

v. SF our RBs had 6 carries in the 1st half. Benson gained 12 yds total on those 6 carries. SF scored 4 times in that half. Rodgers was sacked 2 times in the half. Benson got just 3 more carries the rest of the game. Add another sack and an INT for Rodgers. Benson was the only RB to carry for us, rushing a mere 9 att all game for 18 yds.

Oddly enough, v. CHI our RBs had 14 carries for 78 yds. and a 5.4 yd average in the first half. We won that game, rushing for a total of 25 att by our RBs for 112 yds. Rodgers had -6 on 3 carries for the game.

I'm merely pointing to the figures from the 3 games we played, and how they might correlate to our success or lack thereof. All 3 teams we've played either had a great pass rush, or augmented their pass rush via the draft this year. We will be facing plenty of top tier front sevens as the season wears on. I just hope McCarthy puts more emphasis on the run to get our team moving offensively, by showing more confidence in our personnel and letting them pound away on the run game. Rodgers just might make it through the season that way, and he may have more success.

What we've done thus far certainly has not been working all too well. I believe Mike McCarthy can show true genius by ADJUSTING his philosophy to counter the adjustments other teams have made defensively against our offense. We've been figured out, and we need to counter. That is all up to Mike, ultimately, to get this addressed.

2010 was a different year, as was 2011. Our opponents have had more than a year to figure out how to beat us, how to face our O. Looks like they've done it, going back to KC.

In today's NFL, you HAVE to pass first.

That's what the league wants, and that's how they've oriented the rules.

The problem is that this mindset begets the tendency to overthink. Anytime I hear a new OC likes to "confuse defenses with multiple formations and personell groups," it makes me want to throw up in my mouth.

Yes I know. Matchups are important. But the above quote was Tom Rosseley's creedo. Bob Schnelker's too.

Just line up and beat the guy across from you.

Thank you Nerd.

That's what I've been getting at for the past few years. Rule changes have made this a pass first league. I'm not saying I like it. I'm just saying that's how it is.

But given the crappy OL situation we have right now, we're going to have to run 40-45% of the time until this OL gets better at pass protection. It actually pains me to say that.

Well, last year we ran the ball 42% of the time. It shouldn't be paining you to say we have to run the ball 40-45% of the time, unless it pains you to call for an offense that you have (repeatedly) stated you approved of.

Is Bulaga right?

Heard he was on the injury report.

When you have the lead, as we did in most of 2011, you can run. We pretty much dominated most games in regular season last year.

We don't have a run game. because McCarthy doesn't want to have a run game. No matter how many times he steps in front of the camera and says. We need to run the ball more. Proof is in the pudding. You can say we should run more, yet you don't.

Teams have our offense figured out. Pass rush full tilt because they don't need to worry about stopping a run. So much time in shotgun makes rushing the passer easier also. They don't have to worry about how deep the QB will be.

If he would use the run more, the run would be better, and the passing game would be better.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!
