Quick guys.

That's who the Green Bay Packers are going to need on the defensive line Monday night when they face the Seattle Seahawks.

B.J. Raji and Ryan Pickett step back. Make room for Jerel Worthy and Mike Daniels.

It would be inaccurate to say Raji and Pickett, a pair of 335-pound-plus linemen, won't play a significant role in the Packers' defense Monday, but it wouldn't be far-fetched to say Worthy and Daniels, a pair of rookies, could make their mark.

"We'll find out," defensive line coach Mike Trgovac said Saturday.

The reason Worthy and Daniels might be called upon more is that the Seahawks employ a run scheme similar to the one the Denver Broncos ran under offensive line coach Alex Gibbs in the 1990s and the Packers tried to run in coach Mike McCarthy's first year.

The whole idea is to get the defense moving laterally so the offensive linemen can throw cut blocks that drop big defensive linemen on their faces. Think Gilbert Brown in Super Bowl XXXII.

The 6-foot-2, 304-pound Worthy and 6-foot, 294-pound Daniels are different from what the Packers have generally had under coordinator Dom Capers. Their strength is more speed and agility than size and immovability.

"You have to be smart," Trgovac said. "I faced this scheme several years in a row in Atlanta when I was at Carolina. They just look for that one guy to cut, that one weak link.

"That's what we worked real hard on, make sure everybody stays in their gap. The more you fly off the ball the easier it is for them to cut you."

While Worthy and Daniels are the right fit physically, they also could be pigeons waiting to have their wallets stolen. They've been schooled on how to play the blocks, but they have not seen it up close and in person.

One wrong move and they'll be on their bellies watching Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch (47 carries, 207 yards, one touchdown) advance into the secondary.

"What you can't do is take any false steps against it or you'll be out of your gap," Capers said. "You have to be disciplined and play with good technique."

Worthy has played in both games this season and Daniels played only in the Chicago in Week 2. According to NFL statistics, Worthy has played 72 snaps and Daniels 15 in their pro careers.

Worthy has shown he can function without being a soft spot in the defense, and this week Daniels will probably have to do the same thing. Trgovac thinks physically he can handle it.

"He gives us the ability to keep guys out of his legs," Trgovac said. "They like to get into your legs. He's obviously not a tall, long-legged guy. It's easier to protect yourself.

"He's got really good feet. He's quick, very good with his hands. He's an ex-wrestler, so he understands leverage and all that. He's going to be a good player."

We'll see if that shows Monday night.

I think I would rather have Raji and Pickett would be better against the run. If the Worthy and Daniels have been warned to stay in the ir gaps and look for the cut block why can't the big boys do the same and be more effective since they have more experience?

I think the youth movement we are seeing is about to pay some dividends. Raji and Pick are great, but they need relief, and Worthy & Daniels can prove their worth in rotation tonight. I am hoping for the best for all 4 of these players.

BTW, both Worthy and Daniels got sacks last week. Nice to see them get a taste of success in the NFL. I just have a sneaking suspicion that both players will make big contributions for us this year, as they each learn their wheelhouse.

I'm not mocking you play2win, but I have to laugh at the Packers doing a "youth movement", lol. I've seen that said quite a few times in relation to the Packers defense. My question ... when the hell did they become old? I think '05, '06 and '07 the Packers were the youngest team in the NFL opening day. And in the top 3-5 the years since. Now there's a youth movement? lol I mean the Packers have only FIVE players age 30 or older!!

While Raji is still extremely young, Pickett is as old as dust in NFL years (like dog years, right?). Pickett is 32 years old and while he can still play, I think play2win was just saying its nice to see the old guy get some relief and that it is actually working out for the Packers.

They part ways with Cullen Jenkins which could attribute to the "youth movement" as well...tried replacing an older player with a younger (Mike Neal), although that hasn't played out yet.

Worthy filling in tonight is probably a good idea. He is not only one of the faster defensive linemen on the team but he is just as strong as some of these guys. Mike Daniels might get worked on run defense in this scheme. He is just to small and it would be easier to wash him and have that cut back open up. Daniels is a grinder though, so who knows...

I think it has little to do with age.. it is about having a number of guys that can rotate in and play.

A 3-4 lineman is a thankless bust your ass type position to play.. and it wears you down. Quickly.

Having a solid rotation of guys is a must.. we have added two through the draft this season.. as we have done in the past. These dogs can hunt too..

It is all about production per snap.. limiting Pickett and Raji is smart.. it was a needed development to have them have greater production per snap and not having large drop offs when they are on the sideline.

Can Worthy and Daniels provide this all season.. we shall see. But gotta like the burst they bring.

It was great to see the young D players contribute. With good coaching, they and the D should continually get better as the season progresses. Worty and Daniels development should allow us to limit Picketts and Raji's snaps so as to help keep them be fresher so they can have a more positive effect later in the game. McMillian and Heyward could simply be an upgrade in talent with good progress.
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'
Mucky Tundra (8-Apr) : *CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP*
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : WR who said he'd break Xavier Worthy 40 time...and ran slower than you
Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Who?
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Texas’ WR Isaiah Bond is scheduled to visit the Bills, Browns, Chiefs, Falcons, Packers and Titans starting next week.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : Spotting ball isn't changing, only measuring distance is, Which wasn't the issue.
Zero2Cool (2-Apr) : The spotting of the ball IS the issue. Not the chain gang.
