The winds of fortune have been with us...literally. The fires have been shifting to the south and those who had to evacuate just south of us have returned home. Not good for those folks who live in the canyons and draws south of Hamilton and Darby MT, but good news for us. But we still have the heavy smoke in the air and visibilty is less than 1/2 mile. And, there is a new lightning caused fire west of us that is heading our way pretty fast. This sucker sat for over 2 weeks just smoldering, then decides to flare up and cause all kinds of hell.
My wife's cousin flew in from Fairbanks AK yesterday noon and it was very eery to see the planes landing lights in the smoke before you actually saw the plane. I'm guessing the pilot saw the runway at about 500 feet and 1/4 mile before he actually touched down. It was very interesting to see a 757 land in all that smoke and still be able to stop before the runway ended....at 12,540 feet long. Another reason why I don't fly.
But...we're still safe and that's what counts. My pick-up and the 3rd car are filled with important things we may need if we have to get out fast....like my Eastside Brewery Dark Beer,;Packers items; Brewers Jerseys; vintage 30.06 rifle; and a case of Pabst Beer. What else do I need??
