Francois injury could open door for Manning

Robert Francois suffered a hamstring injury in the Bengals game Thursday night, according to coach Mike McCarthy, but he gave no indication how long he might be out.

The injury could open the door for rookie Terrell Manning to make the final 53-man roster if Francois’s injury keeps him out for an extended time. The Packers are expected to keep four inside linebackers, including starters A.J. Hawk and D.J. Smith and backup Jamari Lattimore.

It’s possible the fourth and final spot was up for grabs between Francois and Manning.

It will be interesting. I doubt Francois' injury is enough to merit being placed on IR. So do they go with only 3 ILB while they wait for him to heal? Do they cut him loose and hope to get him back should they need him? Put him on IR all season?

Part of it depends on Bishop. They won't keep two gimpy LBers on the roster waiting for them to heal. From the same article:

A decision on Desmond Bishop and whether to place him on injured reserve with his torn hamstring could come in the next 48 hours.

Francois has been cut before so I figure they will keep Manning. If he doesn't pan out they will look to replace him mid season.

Manning's not ready. Might open a door for Brad Jones though.

Manning seems to me as one of those players that has much natural ability but it takes a little time for him to grasp and understand things. So, hopefully, he continues to improve noticeably as the season progresses.
