The elimination of Bob Sanders from the payroll. Winners are built on affecting the QB, and we do not do that. Offenses are so well orchestrated that no matter how good the secondary, given time (and we DO give time!!), QBs will eat them up with no pressure. Sanders, while a seemingly decent man, is rigid and lacks the creativity to make do when everything is not perfect. Don't care if we go 4-3 or 3-4, but I want an aggressive, mean, punishing defense....and a couple Wayne Simmons/Mike Douglass type players to stir that concoction. Mike Nolan??

Same with Mike Stock! The Derrick Frost recommendation alone makes this move feasible, but the substantial decline of performance and accountability on coverage is no longer something to be tolerated.

I approve of the job that Ted Thompson has done thus far, very much so. And yes, I agree with moving Favre, who would not make a difference except possibly deny us a future QB had he stuck around. That said, it is time to spend some dough on a havoc-wreaking DL and OL.

I wish that AJ Hawk's play is the result of injury and/or bad scheme/coaching. Never have I seen a player with such promise fade so quickly. My guess is the scheme tries to fit square pegs into round holes.

I wish Mike McCarthy would demand more from players, and if they do not deliver, make a change in who starts. Too often I witness some of our better players playing as dumb as I have ever seen the game played....as evidenced by our penalty count this year.

I wish we would get some road-graders and dump the friggin' ZBS......we are getting beat PHYSICALLY every week along the OL....and I do not believe the ZBS translates well to our late season cold weather games.

Just a start.......

It's a good start Digs.

My Christmas wish:

Mrs. DakotaT would spend less money and obey her husband like the Priest told her to at our wedding ceremony.

I wish for a lights out defense for the Packers!

I wish for politicians at all levels of government who gave a sh!t about average people who get up every day and go to work and pay their taxes.

On topic..

I wish that Barnett is moved outside to take advantage of his speed.. Hawk to be coached up to take advantage of his physical talents.. or should I say get them to be utilized. And a thumping MLB.. whether that be Bishop or whomever that can bring the hammer to the run defense.. hell take him off the field in passing down if you have to..

But I want more plays like Bishop knifing through and dropping a running back in the backfield with a solid wrapped up tackle.. that was a thing of beauty.. how many times did Hawk this year tackle high and get carried down the field for a few?

Fundamentals.. return of solid fundamentals and elimination of mental errors.. lose because they beat you.. not because you allowed yourself to be beaten by playing lax ball.

I agree 100% ... there is no meanness. no drive no kill from our LBs. Watching them get drug by Slaton for 4 yards at least everytime was sickening. And Bishop did do an excellent job on some run plays. but anytime you are that bad in one major aspect of the game... then no matter how well you do in another you can't be on the field.

Again.. that comes back to coaching.. utilize your strengths on defense.. I think back to an example at hand.. Bernardo Harris.. excellent in the box backer.. the coaching staff utilized his strengths and minimized his weakness.. Harris either walked to the sideline or dropped into a short zone.. they didn't match him up in coverage because he was a downhill backer..

Quality coaches design a recipe in utilizing your resources properly.. not forcing guys into playing against a position of strength in their game.. that there is the underlying meaning of Ted's quote about the alignment of our defense.. we aren't utilizing the blend of talent we have.

That there is the hidden meaning of Ted's comment.. doesn't bode well for the DC.

Calling out Sanders?

Link

The defensive line has received significant criticism, arguably going from a position of strength last year to one of weakness.

Thompson doesnt agree.

I think in some respects thats an inaccurate statement to say its the defensive line, he said. I think our guys have played very hard and we dont have the sacks that we maybe would have expected or had last year. But theyve played well. Again, the defense is an 11-man thing.
Its got to be orchestrated properly. And we just havent quite hit our stride yet.

damn you're fast 93... got all the info and links and bam you got it posted already.

as far as firing Sanders... it never really seemed like the guy was picked for the job anyway... just kind of given the reigns because he worked with a very good DC in Bates. I don't think that warrants a job necessarily and when your D has regressed as badly as this one (injuries and all) I don't really see why we would keep him.

my wishlist is that Thompson knew this would be a tough restructuring year all along and was planning on this upcoming offseason being the one that he really puts his stamp on.

beast (34m) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (35m) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (10h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (10h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (12h) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (13h) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (14h) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (14h) : Thank you
wpr (14h) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (14h) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (14h) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (14h) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (14h) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (15h) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (15h) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (15h) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (15h) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (15h) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
Mucky Tundra (20-Jan) : what's so funny?
