If it's one thing less the other teams have to acquire on their own, it frees up those resources to investigate other issues/ideas/whatnot. That is the competitive advantage I'm speaking about.

Think of it like this. When running a business, you need someone to do marketing, advertising, accounting, etc ... if you have one person do all of that, it makes them a jack of all trades, rather than a master of one. If you hire someone for each facet, you will be more efficient and accurate.

So, anything the Packers provide that could be a benefit, is going to be one thing less other teams have to use time to do themselves. That's an advantage to the competition. Of course, unless every team is doing the same thing, which I'd give my vote for.

They are looking for specific data.. or at least they should be. For attending camps.. we had film sessions and they would break down each and every part of your game.. movements.. tenancies. Like I almost always lead with my left.. and took an extra step in setting up a base.. probably even that I passed gas on every fifth snap. It was ridiculous what they looked for.. but time and time again stated that is what scouts are looking at. At the college level.. how you played. And what you better be working on.

Does he rely on speed.. power.. does he have a technique that he is using.

The scouts are going to be looking for individual strengths and more importantly weaknesses of each players.. which is kind of why I label that type of data as nondescript. They are looking for information to help gameplan for their team.. or looking at building profiles on players. individual stats like this do little for them in terms of face value. IMO.

Stats are just a by product.. scouts are in the business of evaluating.. something those numbers do little of. Supporting maybe.. but I disagree that it gives a complete or even usable picture by itself.. so I don't see how it saves the opposing scout from doing the work.

Unless they are being lazy and overvalue those types of numbers.

So you're saying you want vikesrule to have more information on the Packers than millions of other fans? [grin1]

But there are some things it does tell us.. whom they are working.. and whom they are not. Take Muir.. his numbers look poor.. but are they using him up to work him? Or like the games.. he might be providing the best benchmark test to run the olineman through.

I think someone like Brad Jones.. he isn't getting reps.. is that because they are protecting him or is it a sign that they don't need to see any more from him.

From the little I've seen the Packers OT depth hasn't look pretty... so if they're beating Bulaga and/or Newhouse, I'm not sure how you figure the strength comparatively. I'm wondering if Moses (or Perry) has beaten Bulaga much (or at all). Also Newhouse... I remember reading in 11 on 11 Bulaga was winning most of the time against Perry... but Perry did put him on his butt once.

1 54 Moses LB 8 – 4 0.68
2 71 Sitton G 9 – 0 0.67
3 52 Matthews LB 4 – 5 0.67
4 53 Perry LB 5 – 8 0.64

Also does anyone else have a problem with a system that puts Walden before Raji and Dominguez before Bulaga? I'm guessing Walden and Dominguez went against easier guys compared to Raji and Bulaga.

6 93 Walden LB 4 – 4 0.62
7 90 Raji DT 12 – 15 0.62
8 73 Dominguez G 10 – 2 0.61
9 75 Bulaga T 12 – 2 0.60

I think it's more useful if you don't focus so much on who is ranked where. Just focus on the fact that someone being ranked highly means they are likely having a good camp. Someone ranked low is probably struggling a bit. Being upset with specific rankings of who is #1 or #2 etc. is being upset over like .01 difference. Not significant enough imo to worry about.

Not sure quite where to put Newhouse in that...

I prefer thinking about it more in this way...

First off, according to coaches the drill favors the offense.. which makes sense seeing as Lang, Saturday and Sitton haven't lost yet and Bulaga has only lost twice while Matthews and Perry have losing records...

But I think ranking them in tiers like Matthews and Perry should be in the same tier and then judge their wins and loses against each other with in tiers because they're going against the top OTs.... where when you see a guys like OLB Moses, OG Dominguez and OT Taylor having pretty good records it's because they aren't going up against the best of guys and I wouldn't put them in the same tiers as those top guys.

Though it's nice to see Van Roten has a decent record (though I have no idea who he's going against) but I thought he looked like a decent college OT with possible OG potential in the NFL. I also liked Draheim, who played both C and LT in college, but he's record doesn't look as good... but he was with the 2nd string there for a while, so maybe he was on a high tier than the other UDFA for a while...
