It sounds like these two guys are taking full advantage of Shields sucking it up so far in training. Bush won't be lining up with the #1 very much longer, cause it sounds like House is going to snag the job.

My prediction is that base will be

Tramon Williams - CB
Davon House - CB

Burnnett - FS
Wood - SS

Nickel

Tramon - outside
Davon - outside
Wood - slot

Burnett - FS
Dr.J. - SS

Dime Package

Tramon - outside
Davon - outside
Wood - slot
Hayward - inside

Burnett - FS
Dr. J - SS

Bush and Shields will still make the team but they'll have to be special teams aces. Hayward doesn't have the top end speed to play outside. From what I've read on him, he should have gone to cover 2 defense, but Uncle Ted probably thought he could handle the slot and playing the tight ends.

It appears to me that they are rotating through the DBs. Fist it was Bush, next was House, soon it will be Hayward and then Shields again.

Shields had a pretty good day Tuesday.

It looks like they haven't really looked seriously at who is going to start at CB yet. They seem to be getting everyone ready like they will be a starter.

Which isn't a bad idea. It helps the depth when your back ups are ready to be starters.

It also gives them an incentive to work harder. If they have a reasonable chance to be a starter, they will prepare like one. Conversely, if there is a reasonable chance someone else could take that starter spot from them, they might fight harder to win that spot.

long way to go before opening day. I won't be surprised is Sam doesn't get a lot of time on the field. He is still learning the position. House and Hayward have many years of experience on him. But he will sort things out a little at at ime. He will get his confidence up and start to play tougher. (Hopefully.)

I wouldn't be surprised if special teams are the difference between keeping Shields and letting him go. He's a terrible tackler and that's heading up his downward spiral right now. He needs a big preseason.

Great thread....

I am personally very high on Davon's upside as a solid contributor to the Packers "D" this year. I would love to see him make make an impact.

I also despise, and feel serious contempt for any player on "D" who continues a drive by the opposition due to a stupid penalty. House is a worry to me due to his aggression. The fact is he is kind of nuts when it comes to going overboard in extra physical abuse against anyone running a route against him.

This is something you have to love and cherish in a player... But it can be a weakness when the flags start flying after a 3rd down stop.

I hope Dom, and Chuck and the Vets can sort of reel the kid in and teach him, guide him, and show him how to channel that aggression into succsess with out flags flying.

Also.... It would be great to see him take an interception to his own last name

Shields has been disappointing, I hope he can turn it around. I had land still have high hopes for him. It's great to see House making a jump. Now if Heyward can be a solid backup his rookie year we'll be in the best shape we have been in some time at CB. Next I would hope McMillain can contribute by mid year.
