I'm a geek and sports had zero to do with my choice of schools (I only applied to one Division I school out of high school, Northwestern). But a lot of you are more into college sports than I am, and some of you are/were big time jocks, in high school at least, so I'm curious...

If you were (a) a Penn State football player or (b) a recruit who had already committed to PSU, would you stay?

Personally, if I was there for academics, I might (depending on the field), or if I was within two years of graduation, I'd stay. Otherwise, though, I'd probably bail. And if I was there primarily for sports, I definitely would bail.

If I had committed to play at Penn State, yes, I would at this point have the mindset that the NCAA has way overstepped their bounds and punishing people for a crime, yes a crime, they didn't commit.

So yes, on pure principle I would stay committed and although a bowl bid or a National Championship would be a goal, the goal for that school has now changed.. it is making a statement to the NCAA and college football as a whole. We will survive.

When the NCAA will punish the program but fail to address the primary people at the heart of the issue, by the very least a lifetime ban from college sports, it speaks highly to the failure to see the big picture of the NCAA and Emmert.

That said, Penn State would not have been on my list of programs.. something like FSU. 🙂

It depends on where I committed to. If it was Penn State, it wouldn't change my mind. Penn State won't have a bowl game, so that means their regular season games are going to mean much more to them, so I anticipate the team trying harder.

It would depend on how long I've been apart of the program. Anything more than a year, I would stay. But if this all happened before I started to envelope into the culture at the program, I probably would have bailed. Unless I was at a program where I was a fan long before I became apart of it, ie the Gophers. Then I would stay, regardless. Although I would have been disgusted with the peoples involved in the infractions.
