We have our incumbant Marshall Newhouse trying to fend off Derrick Sherrod and Andrew Datko. How do you guys see this one shaking out?

I'd really like to see them PUP Datko and let that shoulder heal properly and then let Sherrod and Newhouse battle for it - but we will see.

What I don't want to see is Bulaga moved over. That is a nasty, nasty right side of the O-line we have formulating and I would hate to see desperation interrupt its development.

From what I read about Datko, is that he is a monster on the field when healthy, and being 6-6 puts him at the ideal size. He is a darkhorse, but I'm glad we took out the flier.

As for Sherrod and Newhouse, I think you have serviceable players, but no pro-bowl worthy player. We can get by with either guy. It's nice to have some options finally.

Newhouse can get it done. I thought Datko was cleared for contact? I could be wrong. Sherrod is the one who might get PUP'd with the broken leg.

Either way, I like our depth. This was a formerly thin position and in two years now looks like a great strength. RB too.

Thanks Ted Thompson!

My guess is it is Newhouse's job to lose. If I recall he had a couple fairly good games, several mediocre ones, and a couple godawful ones last year. As long as he avoids the "godawful" and has preseason games that are a bit more "fairly good" than it is "mediocre," he'll be the starter opening day.

I don't recall Daryn Colledge's quarterbacks ever coming to bat for him the way Rodgers has for Newhouse, and MM still gave *him* a lot of chances to lose his job. He'll give Newhouse the benefit of the doubt unless he looks really bad in the preseason. He might not give him the whole year, but he'll give him a few weeks into the season at least.

IMO.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Newhouse begins the season as the starter while Sherrod continues to get his strngth back. By mid season Sherrod is the starter. Datko is on the PS.

All I will say is I hope they get Cobb some snaps in preseason because I have a funny feeling we will be needing a very mobile qb to play back there. Rodgers better do some MMA fighting to get used to the beating he will be taking this year.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Newhouse>Sherrod>Datko

I believe Datko is ok'd for contact and healthy. His shoulder injury is just reoccurring. Newhouse should have the starting position at the beginning of the season.

Bulaga is the best Tackle and should be playing there.

Sherrod and Newhouse can work to see who is the starter on the right side.

Let the experiment with Newhouse continue at RT - not on Rodger's blindside. Newhouse was one of the poorest tackles in pass protection last year (8 sacks, 8 QB Hits and 39 pressures) Sure, he could get better - but no way you risk that with the franchise player.
