Remember the few comments about D.J. Smith replacing A.J. Hawk ? Maybe there was something to that after all?

Okay, this part confused me ...

Head Coach Mike McCarthy has said Smith will have a chance to push for a starting role this season which could mean moving on without Hawk and his $4.4 million in salary cap money. With this year’s fifth-round draft pick Terrell Manning from NC State and the recent move of Brad Jones and Jamari Lattimore from OLB to ILB, the team appears to be in position to do so. However, the Packers have a history of questionable decisions when it comes to Thompson’s first draft pick as a GM.

This was in relation to the Packers moving on from Hawk ... I believe the author thinks A.J. Hawk was Ted Thompson's first draft selection, when it was actually Aaron Rodgers.

Wouldn't bother me a bit. If he wasn't a first-rounder I honestly don't think Hawk'd still be a Packer. Still pisses me off that we kept him over Barnett...

Even if Hawk manged to get knocked down to 2nd string there is no point in cutting him. You are still on the hook for almost all of his salary and he's a great teammate/locker room guy and would be a great back up as long as he didn't get too disgruntled about it. Either way the fact that they like DJ Smith that much is great news.

I have no idea if Buffalo is 3-4 or 4-3 though.

I have been waiting for the college AJ Hawk to show up, much like everyone else. As a B1G TEN fanatic, I love seeing them succeed at the next level. Unfortunately, it seems Hawk's killer instinct has been lost throughout his years in the NFL. I wouldn't mind him losing the starting position if someone were to beat him out for it but it would really suck to have him as a 2nd string/situational player with that kind of salary.

As for Hawk, he's a try hard guy. Ted loves try hard guys.
