Yes, he has pretty darn good measurables.

(Though I had his 40 as 4.56, exactly the same as Barron's.)

I still don't like the pick.

(And don't forget...it took Collins a solid three years to develop.)

He had better be Collins II.

Not sure if Wade deserved to be mocked like that, Twinkie.

Personally, I can see what Wade is getting at. It is a little unsettling to have a player that most draft sites rated as a marginal prospect get drafted in the fourth round. It's not like any of the draft sites I've checked out thought this kid was going to go later on, it's that they all didn't think he was worth drafting at all.

So, yeah, I'm not all that giddy about this pick. If someone like Mike Sherman made this pick, I'd be complaining about how bad of a draft choice it was - and it initially looks like we got much less than fair value here. However, given Ted's record, and the fact that he picked Nick Collins who brought about similar feelings of "major reach" as this pick, I'm willing to not reject this pick outright.

Furthermore, Wade does make a good point about him being Nick Collins II in order for it to be have been a worthwhile pick. Frankly, if he is going to be a career back-up, we could've gotten that at S after the draft (as MD Jennings and Anthony Levine can attest to). McMillian has to be more than a ST body, because (again) we could have gotten someone like that later on (i.e. Ryan Taylor in the 7th round last year). Mcmillian, having gone where he has based on what he was projected to be, should be expected to compete for and eventually win a starting spot. You don't want him to simply be a body... that is not what you expect from a fourth round pick.

Was an interesting pick to say the least, but I'm going to take TT's word for it. With the way some teams were drafting guys this year, this pick doesn't look bad at all...

Just take a look at this pick again and then look at the Jaguars 3rd round pick...:-k

I think sometimes fans hold the "mock draft rankings" in way too high of regard as to where players should be picked or not because those things are in reality about as useful as throwing darts at a wall full of names (especially when it comes to small school players like this guy).

One of the top prospects to emerge from Maine in years, McMillian is a strong and physical safety who will be valued fairly high by an NFL team that needs help in its run defense. He is an athlete who at times can look stiff in his movements when covering the pass. When it comes to getting involved in the run game, McMillian brings it full-go every time and is a real aggressive player. His value lies in his ability to support the run and be a sure tackler, and he has sixth-round value based on this. He will likely be a make-it guy as a late-round selection for a team as he will be a reliable backup option early on and a serious contributor on special teams. Without doubt he is a player who needs to be heavily involved with the front seven and will be attractive to blitz-heavy defenses.

4.42 40 with 36.5" vertical! Not bad for a Strong Safety.

Burnett was impressive his rookie year before being injured. These guys can come in and compete as rookies. Especially under the tutelage of our coaching staff. Remember how good Shields looked as a rookie? And CB is arguably more demanding than S.

A safety who is extremely fast and tackles well.

That sounds like Nick Collins. Remember, when we drafted Collins, he was a 2nd round pick considered to be a reach.

dfosterf (18-Aug) : We do have good depth at running back imo. Still so frustrating. Bitching about it is a futile excercise, which I plan to do anyway.

Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : With LVN that is; need to see what happens in the next practice
Mucky Tundra (13-Aug) : beast, reading about what happened, it sounded like one of those "two guys collide and are moving slow afterwards" type of deals
beast (12-Aug) : I believe Musgrave has been injured every single season since at least a Sophomore in highschool

TheKanataThrilla (9-Aug) : NFL Network is broadcasting the game tonight, but not in Canada. Not sure why as no local television is showing the game.
beast (8-Aug) : But the Return from IR designations had to be applied by the 53 man cutdown.
beast (8-Aug) : It's a new rule, so it's not clear, but my understanding was that they could be IR'd at any time
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.
Zero2Cool (8-Aug) : Packers star Howton, first NFLPA prez, dies at 95 😔
dfosterf (8-Aug) : Apparently it is too complicated for several to follow your simple instructions, but I digress
