Packers CB Davon House is a candidate for a bigger role following the departure of Pat Lee.
Packers coaches are intrigued by House’s size and athleticism, and believe he can develop into a starting-caliber corner with the benefit of a full offseason. A fourth-round pick in 2011, House will compete with Sam Shields for playing time behind starters Tramon Williams and Charles Woodson

I am not trying to be nasty. Maybe I am missing something but is this really a surprise? When he was drafted didn't the Packers staff want him to grow into a bigger role at some point in time?

I think this report is just saying they still have high hopes for Davon House and those hopes are why they let Pat Lee walk.

The thing I look for in a cornerback is how well they flow with the receiver. When the receiver cuts, is the cornerback like glue? Derrelle Revis very good at this, although, he also cheats by pulling the jersey a lot. The other aspect is ball control. When the ball is in the air, how well do they adjust to it? Al Harris was awful at this, but I don't think he really tried catching it all that much. He was more interested in slapping it away, which is good by me.

But then some of the time that is due to biting on the first one or not covering the proper receiver so i am ok if he is covering the targeted receiver and doesn't have to make the incredible recovery.

But since this is a House thread not Shields I am interested in seeing what the young man can do this year.

It would be fantastic for the Packers if House can develop into a starting corner. In fact, it'd be fantastic if he could develop into a great nickle back. The team could really use a big strong CB. I look forward to seeing some significant development of House this season.

To me.. he probably would fit better in a more zone scheme.. not a good man player. Personally.. he flat lined early after an erratic start. IMO, should have been a better player with the talent he had, just didn't max that talent into production. It will be interesting to see how the Raiders use him.. if Reggie is the evaluator I think. I would guess the coaches there are looking to play more zone coverage. Just a hunch.

Underwood.. IMO, his biggest issue was playing near the LOS, hand fighting and the physical battle with the receiver. But the guy could recover and IMO, played the ball well when in the air. He needed to develop upper body strength and apparently his off field life as well. Many times, I think we the fan fail to or can't take into account what is happening with the person off the field.

Some people can compartmentalize home from work.. some cannot. When Underwood stated he needed a change of venue in terms of where he plays.. I don't think he was referencing in the locker room.

I see potential in most players.. however some players are only going to be role players.. some can become more than that. See Jarrett Bush. Travis Jervey comes to mind. Desmond Howard. Corey Williams.

I also don't mind saying I see a cap on a player as well.. see AJ Hawk. Colledge. Jarrett Bush.

Now .. on House.. if the player that played at Tech develops more.. I would think we have a player in the making. But the little we have seen of him on the field at the NFL level.. who knows. Plus I boycotted all NFL activities last season.. in camp and preseason you get to see a lot more of the action have a better feel for the players when you see them in live action and aren't restricted to the lower quality preseason affiliate feed.

Cheesey (17-Nov) : If the Badgers had a decent QB, they would have won. The guy can't hit a wide open receiver
Martha Careful (17-Nov) : chop block
