Jermichael Finley's value inflated
Green Bay's tight end is overrated, but Packers didn't overpay for him

By KC Joyner
ESPN Insider

Now that the Green Bay Packers have reached a two-year, $15 million contract with potential unrestricted free agent tight end Jermichael Finley, one might expect Packers fans to be feeling something of a sense of euphoria. After all, it isn't every day that a team can secure the services of an elite player.

That mindset would be understandable except for one minor detail, which is saying Finley is one of the best tight ends in the league really is not an accurate assessment. In fact, if one reviews Finley's numbers with an objective eye, it becomes clear that he might not even be one of the top 10 tight ends in the NFL.

I'm glad to get this deal finished. In my mind this one had the potential to get ugly. It was handled nicely by both parties. Glad some of youse guys aren't handling any negotiations...just kidding. LOL
Why is Jerry Kramer not in the Hall of Fame?

From rotoworld ...

2/22/2012: Signed a two-year, $14 million contract. The deal included a $1 million signing bonus. Another $1 million is available through incentives. Finley is eligible for $300,000 offseason workout bonuses in each season.

2012: $950,000 (+ $3.5 million roster bonus)
2013: $4.45 million (+ $3.5 million roster bonus due in March)
2014: Free Agent

Wow, he gets half his entire contract just by being on the roster in March. He doesn't have to do a damn thing in training camp or even make a single play in the regular season, and he still makes millions. What a nice fantasy world these guys live in. The only real check on Finley at this point is that if he does have a lousy season, he gives the Packers a powerful incentive to cut him before the next $3.5 million roster bonus comes due. Hopefully that is enough to spur him to soften up those stone hands of his.

I don't believe Jermichael Finley had stone hands prior to 2011, so I'm holding out hope that he is able to focus on catching more like he used to, lol.

JSOnline.com reports Jermichael Finley had 13 drops last season. I would have guessed something closer to 20 myself.
