I'd seriously consider shit-canning the whole bunch. No one is special, and I'd like to see if we could land a gem in the process.

IMO, this is a position you can really take a "FLYER" on.

I say it's time we do so, big-time.

Good thing we didn't trade Hawk for Lynch last year. He was just terrible this year.[grin1]

James Starks deserves one more season.
Brandon Saine deserves at least one more season.
Alex Green deserves at least one more season.

Shit canning the whole lot would be a little silly if you ask me. I think the Packers should draft another in the mid rounds and bring in some more undrafted free agents to compete. If there is a gem out there, by all means, go and get him at a reasonable price.

Selling the farm for a running back on a Mike McCarthy offense is pretty foolish if you ask me. I think even if the Packers had Barry Sanders they still wouldn't give their starting RB 20 carries a game.

The RB position isn't important enough to merit any drastic moves. If there is one position you can be ok with taking flyers on later round picks and UDFAs it's RB.

z2c pretty much stated my view. We are still running the zone blocking scheme right? Our offense is pass heavy so a beast RB will not be worth the cost. It would be nice to see a RB break more tackles though. Starks seemed to show some promise of this in 2010 but really appeared to take a step back this year.

I like our guys. Starks had what, 4.8 per carry this year? He had a bad game against the Bears and later in the season he had ankle issues. Dude can play. Remember, before that shoulder injury in college, he was ranked as #2 RB in the country behind only CJ Spiller. Only problem is WHEN he had that shoulder injury. He missed his entire senior season, which is why he fell in the draft. If he had the injury in the last game, it wouldn't have been as big of a deal. Dude needs to stay healthy, although with the depth we have, I think we'll be able to spell him when necessary. He can also pass pro on third down.

I know I've talked shit about Grant in the past, and honestly I doubt he'll be back next season due to 1: his age, 2: the shenanigans he pulled during the Favre fiasco in order to leverage his contract and 3: the depth we have at the position, but the dude is for real late in the season. He doesn't have great vision, runs into the pile too much, isn't a third down guy and isn't the best as a receiver. But he gets stronger as the season goes on, and even as a game goes on. He was actually making it around the corner at times late in the season this year.

Alex Green did nothing in college but lead the nation in yards from scrimmage. Or was it average per carry? I'm very excited about this guy. When he busted out his knee, it make me physically sick. The dude is a pass catching and third down specialist. Perfect mold for our system. MARK IT DOWN. Dude's gonna be productive if he can come back from the knee injury, which I fully expect him to do.

I like Saine too. Dude's got more size and speed than Green, iirc, but he's a little more raw. Or was at the beginning of the season. He's a little more of a project, but he's gonna be down on the depth chart too. Tons of upside. He runs a 4.3 doesn't he? Something incredibly fast, and he's a big RB too. Another pass catching AND third down pass pro specialist. These guys are custom fit for our offense much moreso than the Grants, Lumpkins and Brandon Jacksons of the world.

If we had Adrian Peterson, he'd probably get 6 carries tops.

We just don't run the ball.

RB is the least of our worries.
If they don't get a pass rusher, it won't matter how good of a RB we have.
A defense that sucks. That's what really needs to be fixed first and foremost.

All they need in a RB is someone who can carry the ball about 10 times a game without fumbling. Pick up the blitz when asked to and catch the dump off pass and get 7-10 yards once again with out fumbling. Don't need to spend a #1-2 pick for that.

dfosterf (25-Jul) : Probably a homer access credential intimidation kinda thing
dfosterf (25-Jul) : Meathead "journalists" skip this, concentrating on operational revenue when convenient. They switch when net revenue is more favorable.
