About 2 years ago I had a terrible crash while racing a full-size dirtbike. The footpeg ended up lodged directly above my heel and behind my ankle. My entire leg went numb for 3 months and the doctors said it was simply still in shock. For about the past month I've been experiencing excruciating leg pains.
Well considering I'm not in the brightest of moods at the moment, long story short the doctors give me until 40 until I lose all feeling and mobility of my left leg, I'm 26... Do the math. As of now 6 inches above and below my knee have no feeling due to nerve damage, besides muscle flares that happen throughout the day which I would rather amputate my leg than endure. It's going to take a miracle if I this nerve damage doesn't spread, and I know I'm making a big, dramatic deal out of this but hey, shit happens and I guess I'll have to deal with it. Thanks for reading.

I admire your courage and determination to live a victorious life in the face of the obstacles that beset you. As a healthcare provider, I have watched many people accomplish great things despite living with chronic care, and I often feel their indomitable will sets mine to shame. It gives me something to live up to.

If you don't mind my asking, what's the mechanism behind the spreading of the nerve damage? Have you had some sort of autoimmune response to the injury? Usually the nerve problems I have seen have been localized. They haven't spread following injury.

Well, thank you, but those people you speak of with far worse disabilities than mine, I look up to greatly. For example, my brother has a case of cerebral palsy that leaves the left half of his body (including limbs) crippled and virtually useless. I greatly admire his bravery and I feel that's whats keeping my fighting this. My younger brother battled leukemia at the time of age 6-11, and on multiple instances the hospital he was seen at gave him no longer than a week to live. I figure if two out of my three siblings can overcome something of those magnitudes, I should be able to overcome this obstacle. I also forgot to mention that I also have it in about the back half of my foot, from the injury. This section of the damage is not supposed to lose any feeling or mobility. The doctors told me it's a very odd case of the damage, and I once had these pains* through out my entire leg, but within the past year or so it has centralized to my foot and knee-cap-area. They were also telling me that in a very rare case, it could continuously spread up to my spinal chord.
*Caused by the nerve damage

I am sorry to hear about your leg. I was in a car accident on my 18th birthday (now 53) my spinal cord got smashed together when I hit the windshield. I probably don't have as much pain as you have but I understand nerve damage and numbness is no fun. I get it in my back, my legs my arms and fingers.

Thanks from all of you. It really means alot for your support. The worst thing about this is nights like tonight are spent home by myself, instead of being out with someone whether it be my wife, friends, family, etc.
