Befitting their status as a complete offense, the Packers have been anything but fazed by second-and-long yardage situations. According to STATS, they have converted 21 of those 42 in that series (not just on second down), a 50% success rate that ranks third in the National Football League behind New Orleans and Pittsburgh.

In the last five games, however, the Packers have been at their torrid best with 13 conversions in 19 attempts for 68.4%.

On second and long, McCarthy puts Rodgers in shotgun formation about 90% of the time with either three or four split receivers. The second-down calls are designed for several receivers running shorter routes.

"It's going to be a play where we've got a crossing route and a guy running a shallow and a guy running a dart," Driver said. "Or we got a hinge (five-step and hook) route outside that's going to at least pick up 8 yards. If he takes the crossing route you pick up at least 12."
