If you are worried about the D you might not want to check this out.

This is kind of cool... Until you enter in Defensive rankings as the formula in the playoff predictor.

No worries RP. If you like stats, you'll love NSD's thread on what really matters - the difference in offensive passer rating vs defensive passer rating.

Right now, we are #1 in Points Differential and I wouldn't be surprised if we're also #1 in the difference between offensive passer rating and defensive passer rating. If we're #1 in both categories, the NFL shouldn't bother finishing the season. They should just hand us the Lombardi Trophy.

That's funny, using D rankings according to this The Packers are going to lose their last 5 games.

I found this article on Packers.com to be very interesting,

http://www.packers.com/news-and-events/article_ketchman/article-1/Capers-defense-put-a-whippin-on-Lions/8af03261-fc0c-4a85-bd02-c030f7142a17

seems the game plan was to give the yardage but not the points.

The problem as I see it is that there are too many "miscommunications." Numerous tv analysts, chief among them being Mariucci and Deion Sanders have said that the main problem with them is that they don't have a "sense of urgency." They know that the offense is going to put up 35+ points.
I think there may be some truth to that, but I also think there is something to the idea that teams are always trying to throw to come back/keep pace with us. Also factor in the injuries we've had, with Tramon not being his real self earlier in the year and Neal only coming back now.
Anyway, I think we'll be ok, but I also think we'll be getting better.

The defensive rank I care about is the amount of points we allow, which is a bit above average right now. We held the Vikings to 7 and Lions to 8. (before giving up a late garbage time TD) Obviously there is still room to improve on the defense, but getting Neal back to add to the defensive line rotation and hopefully getting Zombo back healthy to rotate with Walden will help some and keep our guys fresh. Obviously, even under the best case scenarios the defense will not be better than it was a year ago, but the offense is vastly improved as well. If the offense can keep up it's production and the defense even gets slightly better, we've got a good chance to repeat imo. We won't be staring at 3 straight road games in the playoffs like a year ago. Probably just two home games to get back to the Super Bowl which in and of itself is a big plus.

As far as there's a good chance that they allow significantly less points than they score, there's a pretty good chance of going long in the playoffs.
I think most of the last 10 Super Bowl participants had top 10 D in terms of points allowed.

Currently the Packers D is 8th at 78.1. The Bears are at 78.0 and SF is at 75.7.

Personally, I think the only thing wrong with the Packers D is that they have not had to play any close games where they had to step up for the whole game. They always have a huge lead going into the 4th quarter. When they have needed it, they have gotten it. It is just that when we really need it, we jump from down by 13 to up by 17 and we hold that until the 4th quarter when the other team starts running out of time.

Not that it is a problem or a lack of urgency. It is a scheme issue. We are playing soft and waiting for picks, keeping everything in front of them and off the boundary to keep the clock running. We don't need to force 3 and outs because we don't need to hurry up and score points to catch up. Opponents can burn up all the clock they want trying to catch us. We don't care.

Whereas NSD says that's not a good thing, that's a generalization. There are always exceptions to the rule and the '09 Saints and the '11 Packers are the exceptions. We CAN get the INTs so we can safely rely on them.

We got 22 in 11 games. Woodson has 6. Peprah and T Williams each have 4. Burnett has 3. Sam Shields has 2. A bunch of other guys have 1 each.

We also seem to get the sacks when we need to lately. One may look at CM3's numbers and think we've declined but the others have stepped up. Bishop has 5. Walden, Raji, and Wynn each have 3. Woodson's got 2. Yeah, not intimidating sack totals by any means but we keep getting close. QBs don't like being touched, especially Tom Brady whom I'm guessing there's about a 35% chance we face (the Texans aren't going to make it and the other team I think has 1/3rd shot in the AFC is the Steelers as they just win games).
