Week 7 Metrics Sorry for the delay, but here are the numbers against the Vikings. That first play was definitely a disaster and probably a result of our defense focusing on turnovers and getting aggressive as we've been doing all year.
Woodson had the game of the year and had a legitimate chance at 4 interceptions on the day. He blanketed receivers all day and knew who he was facing and toned up the aggressiveness in his game even more knowing he would come out on top if Ponder challenged him enough...sure enough, he did.
Tramon also played a great game outside of 2 plays. Of course, those 2 plays do count. I can't wait for him to get a couple picks, so hopefully he'll stop looking hard for them and simply play his game. He's not nearly as aggressive as Woodson though. Definitely feel 10x better now about his health than I did a couple weeks ago. Hopefully this bye week helped even more.
In the pass rush, Matthews probably had one of his worst games of the year. In run defense, he probably had one of his best games of the year, sadly the rest of our team left their tackling skills behind and AP went all AP on us. Matthews improves his Comp. % allowed to 6.3, which while slightly disingenuous because I include deflections at the line, is still absurd because he isn't Johnny Jolly from a couple years back. His 1.4 YPA and 39.6 QB Rating is equally impressive. So much for he can't cover. The man is absurdly good in underneath coverage.
Erik Walden's numbers look mighty impressive, but the way he got there wasn't. It's impressive on it's own, but I see it as an anomaly for sure. Also saw him play the run game miserably on a couple games widening his lane a couple times.
Bishop also looked less than impressive playing the run. He's an incredibly average player altogether IMO, but we can get away with it. He's consistently puts his hat on the wrong side of blockers opening up run lanes and I even saw him taking on guys with his side instead of hitting them head on. C'mon man, suck it up and take on a blocker instead of celebrating every time you get a clean hole to the QB/RB.
