Week 6 Chart I'm glad to see Tramon Williams finally return to full health. Not only has his play taken off to the level we saw him at last year, but it's making a big impact on what Capers can do in the secondary. We've seen a far heavier dose of press-man coverage, which is clearly the strength of this secondary. I must admit I was a little worried earlier in the year that we wouldn't get back near the level of play we had on defense last year, but those worries are starting to slowly get erased. The one area of weakness here is still the pass rush. We can still get a decent rush when we send more than 4 with Clay being one of them, but there hasn't been much generated without Capers' help. That said, we're also giving more space on the underneath routes which is giving our guys less time to get home.
As for Williams' play this week, simply terrific. He nearly had 2 interceptions and he's getting closer and closer to his first. I wouldn't be shocked to see it come this week. I want to see a couple more weeks out of him, but I think he will return to the same player he was last year, if not better, in case some of you may be concerned. He's pretty much there again right now.
On that note, Sam is also getting back to where he was last year. He's clearly a MUCH more effective corner when he's not playing off and soft. Looking forward to seeing this secondary come together over the rest of the season...too talented to play like they did the first couple weeks.
Morgan clearly looked a bit awkward out there, but I'm sure he'll figure it out. I know we're going to be pulling our hair out a couple times this season when he drops a pick because of that damn cast. The big play he allowed early on (vicious stiff arm and run by Lance Kendricks) was probably something we'll see less and less of as he continues to adapt to life without an arm.
I absolutely can't wait to get a legitimate OLB opposite Clay Matthews. He's really REALLY good in coverage when given the opportunity. Granted, 2 of his "targets" this week were deflections at the line, he simply has the ability to get the job done when he's asked to drop, which has been FAR more this year. I'm not sure how he does it either since he's done so little of it the last 2 years and he's probably played more pro games than participated in practice.
Very solid game in coverage for Woodson too as the numbers indicate. He wasn't really tested much, but he had tight coverage when he was. That sack is always a pleasure to see too.
