Imo, this baby boomer and his buds have earned their pay and place in society. Just ask any living president.
If you honestly feel we owe more, I would absolutely be more than happy to volunteer to straighten your young ass out right good, right now.

I do think it's absurd to call the WWII generation "the greatest generation" anyways, especially considering that there hasn't been a thinker worthy of any of the top Founding Fathers in the whole freaking 20th century. If any generation was the greatest, it would be the generation that gave us the Founding Fathers, and it wouldn't even be close.

Just sayin'...[palm] + you are wrong. I have the great gift of having talked with/imterracted with so many of men and ladies of that generation, and imo, they absolutely deserve the title. You're no dummy, so I'm going to assume you are semi-fucking around here.

I'm not going to rehash WWII, but just remember, these guys and gals somehow beat down 2 juggernauts that had an outstanding chance of taking over the entire world, and oh, by the way, were raised in the great depression. Don't discount it merely because you are tired of hearing about it.

Plus, they actually read BOOKS! Can you IMAGINE? For you "smart guys", know this, college bound pukes...

[jarhead experience](forgive me, I got a friggin' WAIVER (from Dartmouth, so I used a crappy translator--but that was the "rule" back then)

For you lazy fucks, the effective translation is that you didn't get to think about going to college in the first place unless you had a full command of a "dead" language, in this case, Latin. How good is your imagination to figure out the friggin' scholastic requirements of the day compared to now? I suggest you say "sir" and "ma'am" next time you talk to one of the "greatest" generation, and then LISTEN, rather than talk. Last time I checked, you can't have a discussion with a founding father, so you are (I reckon) forced to plan B, and plan "B" is running out fast, because they are all dying. Get it while you still can.

Here is my perspective in one simple question and answer.

Do you (not "you", Kev- generalized "YOU" ) ever think of what kind of "stones" it took to get into a B-17 in the 8th Air Force and fly over Germany in 1942?

2 in 3 chances you are not coming home, (before you "get" to come home, and this mission could very easily be your last) and you aren't even in charge of your own destiny. and that last part would drive me nuts. I have met men that survived it. What a gift.

That is stones, and highly reflective of how that generation "rolled", imo.

My problem with the "greatest generation" is that we have to listen to the problems of the Great Depression ad nauseum. Times are worse now than ever and we all get up and plug along. My problem with the Boomers is that you guys haven't improved anything. The world went into a shithole on your watch. Take some fuckin resposnibility for it.

As for you military guys - aren't you just doing your jobs, whether drafted or enlisted? Courage is subjective - one might say getting up every morning to go to a job you absolutely hate to support a family takes courage.

You can't judge Gen X or Y yet cause all power and money lie with the WWII generation and the Boomers. World's pretty fucked up, what are you all going to do about. Phil Collins said in a lyric "Land of Confusion" that his generation will make it right. Well we're waiting.

I'm impressed, Foster. That sentence was even grammatically correct. I think you remember your Latin better than I do, and it's only been 15 years or so since I studied it. I think that because of your sometimes peculiarly circumlocutory writing style, it's easy for a lot of people to forget that you are one of the most intelligent people on this site, if not the most intelligent.

Speaking of Latin, I plan to start teaching my sons Latin  at home starting next year. I am hoping they get as fluent as I used to be; I used to be able to read Latin texts without translating in my head. I could think and even dream in Latin. Actually, I want them to get more fluent than I ever did, since I never had the opportunity to finish the verb system. Taking Latin was the easily the best academic decision I ever made. It has helped me in almost every endeavor of my life since. My hope is that they would get proficient enough that they would chatter with their forthcoming sibling in Latin, so that he or she could grow up semi-natively conversant in the language. That would be awesome.
