Bah, stop missing the point. I think it was Dexter who said you are sometimes deliberately obtuse. You are being obtuse here again. The question isn't, "Must the receiver hold onto the football?" but rather "How long must he hold onto the football?" To answer "Until the whistle blows" is, as Dexter pointed out, purely a case of circular reasoning. There should be some solid definition so that neither officials, nor players, nor spectators have a shadow of a doubt that a catch was made and completed.
