Green Bay - Here's a look at the makeup of the Packers' roster:

QBs (2): Aaron Rodgers and Matt Flynn

RBs (4): Ryan Grant, James Starks, John Kuhn and Alex Green

TEs (5): Jermichael Finley, Andrew Quarless, Tom Crabtree, Ryan Taylor, D.J. Williams

WRs (5): Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, Jordy Nelson, James Jones, Randall Cobb

OL (8): Chad Clifton, T.J. Lang, Scott Wells, Josh Sitton, Bryan Bulaga, Marshall Newhouse, Derek Sherrod and Evan Dietrich Smith.

DL (6): B.J. Raji, Ryan Pickett, Mike Neal, Howard Green, Jarius Wynn and C.J. Wilson

LBs (10): Clay Matthews, Desmond Bishop, A.J. Hawk, Erik Walden, Frank Zombo, Vic So'oto, Jamari Lattimore, Brad Jones, Robert Francois, D.J. Smith.

DBs: (10): Charles Woodson, Tramon Williams, Nick Collins, Morgan Burnett, Sam Shields, Jarrett Bush, Pat Lee, Charlie Peprah, M.D. Jennings and Davon House.

Specialists (3): Mason Crosby, Tim Masthay, Brett Goode

Analysis: Athletes, athletes, athletes. That's what GM Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy focused on with their 2011 roster.

What other conclusion can you come to when a team keeps five tight ends, 10 linebackers and 10 defensive backs. They clearly kept players they think can have an impact on special teams and make them a far more athletic team than they were a year ago.

Of course, only 46 players can dress on a given day, and you can be sure the competition to be on the list will be pretty fierce, especially among those competing for special teams jobs.

Just consider the athletes they added: Randall Cobb, Alex Green, D.J. Williams, Ryan Taylor, Vic So'oto, Jamari Lattimore, M.D.Jennings and Davon House. The Packers like big bodies who can run down the field and cover kicks and that's what they have.

They have plenty of starters to handle the other duties, so special teams is where the new guys will have the most impact. But you could definitely see So'oto, Taylor, D.J. Smith and Jennings filling in if their are injuries. So'oto should get a chance to play linebacker from the get-go.

looks good to me - sorry to see quinn go; and west ... both looked like good players.

Cant wait for some 'real' football.

Surprises to me are Gordy and McDonald. I hope both these guys get PS spots. I'm glad Ted didn't make the mistake of keeping McDonald around for multiple years based on potential like he did with Giacomini. Give the spots to guys that earned it. MD Jennings and Lattimore are surprises.

Our interior o-line looks paper thin, with only EDS as a reserve. Unless they want to try Newhouse or Sherrod inside again (YIKES!).

I missed on 4 players.

I thought they would keep QB Harrell, FB Johnson (although I wasn’t thrilled.), OL McDonald and CB Gordy.
Instead they opted for TE Crabtree (I just didn’t think they would go 5 deep.), LB Zombo (I half expected they were down playing the extent of his injury.), LB Jones (Thought he had been passed up by So’oto and perhaps Baltimore.) and CB Lee (I thought they had enough of him and were ready to try to develop younger talent.).

I am pleased to get TE Taylor, no 6th WR and DB Jennings.

Close but not good enough. It was fun trying to guess what Uncle Ted and Mike had in mind.

Looks DAMN good. I forgot that those injured players are actually returning and the team is that much more stacked. Don't fix what's not broken.

4 days away. My liver is sad.

Of all the players who ended up on the IR last year, it looks like only 5 made the roster this year. Grant, Finley, Neal, Jones and Burnett.

9 missed games last year. Rodgers, Starks, Driver, Pickett, Matthews, Walden, Zombo, Woodson and, Shields.

10 rookies. Sherrod D1, Cobb D2, Green D3, House D4, Williams D5, Smith D6b, Taylor D7a, So’oto FA, Lattimore FA and Jennings FA.

Went pretty much how I thought it would.

I didn't take into account the trade, still think that the final 53 is not yet set.

Just a hunch(I think someone else mentioned it), Packers are awful thin on O-line, if the right guy comes available, look for Ted to release Taylor, Lattimore or Jennings to make room, then sign them to the PS. (IMHO these 3 will not be picked up off waivers).

I am hoping Saine, West and Gurley all clear waivers and end up on Packers PS.

I knew we'd go with 2 QBs, 3 RBs, and 1 FB. I was wrong about WRs. I thought we'd go with 6 but I'm fine with 5.

dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
