Pack - That's ok. I'm used to the rest of the country envying us.

Dakota - True dat. My word. You get a little drizzle here and everyone crashes their cars. I'm from the Midwest though and also lived in the South, the Northwest, and spent summers in Colorado and Missouri. Been through hurricanes, flash floods, tornadoes, etc., and can assure you I'll take an earthquake any day of the week over your crappy weather/disasters.

After an earthquake, you make sure you're still alive and check to see you got all your body parts, then put shoes on so you don't step on glass and you're all good.

I was about 100 miles from the epicenter. Given that I never have been in earthquake before, it was kind of scary. The main trembling occurred for about 30 seconds and it was definitely causing the building I was in to shake. I was standing in the doorway and remember thinking that if this gets any worse, this building might be coming down. Then it ended and I went back to work. The over reaction in the beltway was amazing though. As usual, government workers get to go home early, causing major traffic buildup (funny how easy it is to let your workers have free time off when you pay their salary with everyone else's money). I think this link sums up the over reaction best:

20 photos from the earthquake

Now the hurricane is here and the national news covers it non-stop 24/7. I cannot imagine how boring it must be if you live in Wisconsin or Chicago. You fly-over states should take notice in case a hurricane hits your area.

Dakota was being sarcastic. When I said in another post that nobody likes Californians or Texans, I didn't even mention East Coasters because it's a given nobody likes them.

From an earthquake to a hurricane; I wonder if they've ever had a tornado rip through the area? Poor bastards.

There has been an absolute turn in weather patterns. Here in Paradise we use to have only about 20 inches of moisture a year and now we are like a sponge. I'm no global warming or climate change fan; but it's tough to deny when the polar ice melts - weather changes. Or maybe the earth has just shifted a little closer to the sun and we've warmed up.
