Unbelievable!

I thought it would be a min of 4 weeks. Never seen anyone with a broken (fracture) bone come back after only 2 weeks.

Pujols was not in the starting lineup, but presumably will be available to pinch-hit as the Cardinals played the Reds on Tuesday night. Left-handed reliever Brian Tallet, who has a right intercostal strain, was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Monday, to make room for Pujols.

In a news conference the day after Pujols was hurt, the Cardinals mentioned an expected recovery time of six weeks. The club figured that Pujols' wrist would be in a splint for four weeks, and only after that time could he even begin baseball activities. Instead, he was listed as an available bench player after just over two weeks.

"It's about as good a break as we could catch," manager Tony La Russa said. "To have him miss two weeks, that's a serious break on our behalf."

The three-time National League Most Valuable Player has been participating in baseball-related activities for about a week. He began hitting eight days ago on June 27, and took batting practice on the field for the first time before Tuesday's game.

Pujols has been on the disabled list three times in the Major Leagues, and each time he has returned sooner than expected. Still, it's never been quite like this. An injury expected to shelve Pujols for six weeks instead cost him two.

"I feel like if I can play, why should I be on the bench?" Pujols said. "My job is to play baseball. When you do that as a little boy growing up, and get an opportunity to play as a pro and get to the big leagues and do everything that I can to help this ballclub to win, this organization, I feel guilty feeling good and sitting on the bench. If I didn't feel good, I tell you, I'd be the first guy to say, 'You know what? I can't go.'"

Pujols said he has no pain or discomfort in the area of the injury. He ramped up from 30 swings to 80 over the course of the last week. Tuesday represented his most extensive workout since he was placed on the DL.

"I think if I'm worried about it, I wouldn't be activated," Pujols said. "What can I say? If it happens again, there's nothing I can do. But there's nothing in the back of my mind. Because I wouldn't be swinging the bat the way I am."

Both Pujols and La Russa said if there is any worry about a recurrence of the injury, it would be on the defensive side of things, rather than when Pujols is batting. He said he has gone through all manner of swinging and experienced no difficulties. Pujols will have his wrist thoroughly taped at all times during games, and will wear some extra support when he is on the bases to protect him in case of a risky slide.

The question still remains how Pujols will hit upon returning to active duty. He began the season slowly, but came on in the weeks before his injury.

"It's hard to tell," he said. "The [other times] I was on the DL, in '06 and '08, I came off and got [hot] real quick. It's hard to tell. It just depends how quick you can get your timing. But I think the main thing is not to try to go out there and try to do too much. Just let the ball get deep, knowing that the pitchers right now have a little bit of advantage over you, because I haven't seen live pitching for two weeks."

Pujols should slot right back into his customary place in the No. 3 spot in the St. Louis batting order starting Wednesday, deepening an impressive lineup. The Cards still have five players on the DL, and yet arguably they are now the healthiest they've been all year. Moreover, catcher Gerald Laird is slated to begin a Minor League rehabilitation assignment this week, and reliever Eduardo Sanchez should return within a week or so.

That would leave only Tallet, infielder/outfielder Allen Craig and starting pitcher Adam Wainwright still on the disabled list. Wainwright will miss the entire season due to elbow surgery, while Craig is progressing in his recovery from a fracture in his right kneecap.

The Cardinals went 6-7 in Pujols' absence. They scored 51 runs in that span, down nearly a full run per game from their average before Pujols was shelved.

I am posting this for reference, partially because I believe it may play a part in deciding the NL central.

Teams can still deal after the July 31st trade deadline passes. Rules (that I can find) surrounding this are:
• Teams have to pass players through revocable waivers to trade them after the July 31st deadline.
• Players acquired after August 31st can't play in the postseason.
• Teams will often put most of their players on waivers to determine interest, since they don't have to give up every player who's claimed.
• Unclaimed players can be traded to any club in August (or even September).
• Teams don't have to trade players who are claimed. They can hand the player and his salary over for nothing.
• If a team places a player on waivers after he is claimed, but not traded, the team loses the right to pull its player back. In other words, the waivers are revocable at first, but not revocable afterwards.
• Clubs have two days to deal claimed players, but they can only negotiate a trade with one team.
• If only one team claims a player, he can only be dealt to that team.
• If more than one team claims a player, he can only be traded to the team in his league with the worst record.
• If a player's only claimed by teams in the other league, he can only be dealt to the team with the worst record.
• Teams cannot pass players on the disabled list through waivers.
• This all could be mute with a sweep of the Cards starting tonight. šŸ˜

My sister (that I just met a few months ago who's 19) has never been to any sporting event, so I'm taking her to a Brewers game on the 13th of this month. It'll be the win that seals the Brewers into the playoffs!! muwhahahahah

I think the Cardinals are a hell of a team and Tony La Russa is a hell of a manager overall, but some of his antics, bitches and whining are less than becoming of his overall accomplishments in the game.

Lost a bit more of respect for him last night.. not for plunking Braun intentionally, but his bullshit explanation of it after the game. That and complaining about the graphics display in the ball park, come on man.

Heck of a game last night, ugly on both sides, but still on hell of a game.

Doesn't change the fact the La Russa has made my personal list of jackasses with Jerry, Bill and others. lol.

You throw at his players he throws at yours. He is ok with teams pitching inside. He retaliates when they throw up around the head. Albert was pitched up and in on both Monday and Tuesday. So he hit a Brewer but in was down not at the head.

As for the lighting, you know it can make a difference if one team can see the ball better than the other. I am not saying it had any effect in the Monday game or not. But if you distract a team with side non issues maybe it will give your team an advantage.

I do not know Tony's thinking in the whole thing. There are several angles to the consider.

The only thing that effected the game was the Brewers are the better team and Cardinals are realizing it. POW!

Zero2Cool (11m) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (11m) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (26m) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (28m) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (28m) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (29m) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (29m) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (33m) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (33m) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (34m) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (34m) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (36m) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
Zero2Cool (38m) : I literally just said it.
packerfanoutwest (42m) : show us a scenario where Pack don't get in? bet you can't
Zero2Cool (44m) : Falcons, Buccaneers would need to win final two games.
Zero2Cool (44m) : Yes, if they win one of three, they are lock. If they lose out, they can be eliminated.
packerfanoutwest (54m) : as I just said,,gtheyh are in no matter what
Zero2Cool (59m) : Packers should get in. I just hope it's not 7th seed. Feels dirty.
packerfanoutwest (1h) : If packers lose out, no matter what, they are in
packerfanoutwest (1h) : both teams can not male the playoffs....falcon hold the tie breaker
packerfanoutwest (1h) : if bucs win out they win their division
beast (1h) : Fine, Buccaneers and Falcons can get ahead of us
packerfanoutwest (1h) : falcons are already ahead of us
beast (1h) : Packers will get in
beast (1h) : If Packers lose the rest of their games and Falcons win the rest of theirs, they could pass us... but not gonna happen
packerfanoutwest (1h) : they still are in the playoffs
packerfanoutwest (1h) : If Packers lose the remaining games,,,,at 10-7
Zero2Cool (3h) : We can say it. We don't play.
Mucky Tundra (4h) : But to say they are in is looking past the Saints
Mucky Tundra (4h) : That said, their odds are very favorable with a >99% chance of making the playoffs entering this week's games
Mucky Tundra (4h) : Packers are not in and have not clinched a playoff spot.
buckeyepackfan (5h) : Packers are in, they need to keep winning to improve their seed#.
Mucky Tundra (14h) : Getting help would have been nice, but helping ourselves should always be the plan
beast (14h) : Too bad Seahawks couldn't beat Vikings
bboystyle (14h) : We just need to win Monday night and were in
Mucky Tundra (17h) : Or ties, but let's be real here
Mucky Tundra (17h) : Other scenario was Falcons+Rams losses
Mucky Tundra (17h) : Needed a Falcons loss for a Seahawk loss to clinch
buckeyepackfan (18h) : Am I wring in saying if Tge Vikings beat The Seahawks, The Packers clinch?
Mucky Tundra (21-Dec) : Agreed; you stinks
Zero2Cool (21-Dec) : I'm not beating anyone. I stinks.
Mucky Tundra (21-Dec) : rough injury for tank dell. guy can't catch abreak
beast (21-Dec) : So far the college playoffs have sucked... One team absolutely dominates the other
beast (21-Dec) : Well even if you weren't positive towards a guy, you wouldn't nessarily want to tell the media that (if they don't know about it)
Martha Careful (21-Dec) : I think MLF want Love to look past the end half issues, and feel good about his play. Our coaches generally keep a very positive tone.
beast (21-Dec) : I think a great running game will do that for most QBs
packerfanoutwest (21-Dec) : Coach Matt LaFleur has said quarterback Jordan Love is playing the best football of his career.
beast (21-Dec) : Oh, that's how you keep beating buckeye, with cheating
Zero2Cool (20-Dec) : There is a rule that if your name starts with 'b' you lose 15 points. Hey, I don't make the rules, I just enforce them!
wpr (20-Dec) : and then there is Beast. Running away with it all.
