That's one helluva trio of CB's there... wow.

The Eagles, moments ago, sent out a text message that will cause jaws to drop from sea to shining sea.

The Eagles have signed cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the deal is worth $60 million over five years, with $25 million guaranteed.

It’s not all that much richer of a deal than the one signed on the first day of free agency by cornerback Asante Samuel, who received a five-year, $57 million contract with $20 million guaranteed.

And it’s a far cry from the contract that defensive end Charles Johnson will sign with the Panthers: Six-year, $76 million, $32 million guaranteed.

As to Samuel, the move could mean that he’s available, given that the Eagles just acquired Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie on Thursday from the Cardinals. Or maybe DRC could be on the move again, after serving the purpose of providing Philly with cover as they fooled everyone by pursuing Nnamdi in complete secrecy.

Translation: We would really love to hear your good trade offer. Please send them to us.

Greg Cosell of NFL Films in the Philly area points out that Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie both play bump and run coverage. Samuel does not and may not fit what they want to do in 2011.

Samuel is due over $9 million in 2011, which could depress his trade market. He’s currently not in training camp because of an “excused absence.” It wouldn’t shock us if Samuel stays in Philly because he’s still very good and could be tough to deal.

Edit, someone on NFL Network just made a good point. The Eagles, if they keep all three will have something like $40 million of their $120 million cap invested into their secondary and theres a good chance DeSean Jackson will hold out if he's not extended.

jasonjwilde : But still a very good point. RT @AlbertBreer: Good point RT @tomwatsonpats: Need 3 #1 corners to beat Green Bay.

As Jason Wilde said too, not if the Packers don't have James Jones.

Even if they got 4 #1 CB's, if they don't got a pass rush on AR ... he will keep lighting up the scoreboard.

Also I've read Clay's younger brother was running with their 1s

If their DTs aren't the best you might try running up the middle against them.

Mucky Tundra (2-Apr) : Will there be a tracker on the ball or something?
Zero2Cool (1-Apr) : uh oh
Martha Careful (1-Apr) : Too bad camera's can't spot the ball as well.
Mucky Tundra (1-Apr) : So will the chain gang be gone completely or will they still be around as a backup or whatever?
Zero2Cool (1-Apr) : The method for measuring first downs in the NFL will switch from chain gangs to camera-based technology in 2025, the league announced.
Martha Careful (1-Apr) : A big step in the right direction. Just put in the college system is very very good.
Zero2Cool (1-Apr) : NFL has passed a rule that allows both teams to possess the ball in OT during the regular season
